Health and Safety

Our school nurse, Tammy, is seeing an increase in visits to the health office. In order to keep our students and their families healthy, please read the following from our district website-

"Children should not be in school if they have a temperature of 100 degrees or above. Children who have a contagious illness or are experiencing vomiting, diarrhea or other symptoms of illness that may prohibit active participation in school routines should not be in school until appropriate treatment is secured. Students should be free of elevated temperature, vomiting, and diarrhea symptoms for 24 hours prior to their return to school."

Attendance

If your student(s) are going to be absent, please call the Palmer Lake attendance line at 763-561-1930 (ext. 1) before 10 a.m. that day. We understand that there are other forms of communication (ex: TalkingPoints or texting/calling the teacher directly) but we prefer that parents/guardians call the attendance line so the absence can be properly documented. Thank you!

National School Breakfast Week: March 6 -10

Eating a healthy breakfast is an important part of students being ready to learn each day. In fact, national studies show that children who eat breakfast reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math; score higher on standardized tests; and have better concentration and memory.

To celebrate National School Breakfast Week, from March 6 - 10, Osseo Area Schools Food and Nutrition department will hold a hidden “Golden Ticket” promotion for children who eat a school breakfast. Each site will be awarded one $25 Barnes & Noble gift card to the student who receives the “Golden Ticket” with their breakfast. At the end of the week, a grand prize “Golden Ticket” will be randomly distributed at one elementary and one secondary school with breakfast. One lucky elementary student will receive a Galaxy Android Tablet and a secondary student will receive a pair of Galaxy Ear Buds.

Kids Heart Challenge ♥ BE A HEART HERO!

Exciting news from the Palmer Lake Gymnasium! We have kicked off the American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge. Palmer Lake scholars are learning how to be heart healthy and showing kindness through collecting donations to help kids with sick hearts. Money raised will help with research, medicine and surgeries/procedures. Palmer Lake Scholars will also learn about Finn’s mission and hands only CPR. Kids Heart Challenge will end with a fun event on Thursday, March 23rd and Friday, March 24th when we participate in jump roping activities, including jump rope contests for prizes, during their physical education classes. Jump roping is an awesome exercise to get our hearts healthy!

Early Dismissal

Being in school is a top priority for Palmer Lake students. We understand that sometimes your students may need to be picked up from school early. Regular dismissal begins at 3:15pm for walkers and parent pick up students. We cannot guarantee an early release if you come after 2:45pm. Students are learning, and being taught, until dismissal time. Thank you for understanding!

PL Parking Lot

Please take a look at our parking lot map. We want drop off and dismissal to be as smooth and safe as possible for our Panther families! Please be sure to lead by example and cross at the crosswalk! Below is the federal outline regarding handicapped parking spaces, as well.

ROAR GoFund me!

We are Palmer Lakes’s R.O.A.R. Let us introduce ourselves! We are a student group in Palmer Lake Elementary. We chose to call ourselves R.O.A.R. because we are Responsible, Outstanding, Ambitious and Respectful! That is also what R.O.A.R. stands for. We are starting our Go Fund Me, hoping to achieve our goal of $1500 for this year and hopefully a little more for the future students who would like to join next year! The reason why we are starting the Go Fund Me is for our group's field trip to Valley Fair at the end of the school year. We would love it if you donated to us!

Why is R.O.A.R important to Palmer Lake and its community? R.O.A.R students are leaders to the school and community. We show how students are supposed to act and can help the younger students to act more Respectful, Responsible and Kind for themselves and others by the examples from R.O.A.R. We also do lots of things like food drives, making posters for the school for events, making cards for nurses and doctors, and helping around the school. Now after all our hard work we did around our community we deserve an award, right? Well for one award we can go to Valley Fair, because Valley Fair can be a fun place and a place full of memories.

Will you consider donating to us so we have the funds to go to Valley Fair and so future R.O.A.R. students also get to go after?
