Wanda Matos

I am writing to express my heartfelt appreciation for Wanda Matos, our dedicated family worker at P373K. Her tireless efforts in supporting students, families, and staff through the OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities) process have had an immeasurable impact on our school community. Wanda has gone above and beyond to ensure our students are connected to essential programs and services that support their long-term growth and independence. Her deep understanding of the OPWDD system and willingness to “get her feet wet” when complications arise have made her an invaluable resource to our families. Whether it's navigating eligibility issues, coordinating evaluations, or following up with agencies, Wanda is relentless in her advocacy and care. What truly sets Wanda apart is her compassion for the parents and guardians she serves. She does more than fill out paperwork—she walks with families through what can often be an overwhelming and emotional journey. She listens, encourages, and makes herself available in ways that demonstrate genuine empathy and commitment. For many of our families, she has become a lifeline—helping them feel seen, supported, and empowered. Thanks to her persistence, many students who might have slipped through the cracks are now enrolled in programs that will continue to support them well beyond the school setting. From securing Medicaid Waiver services to setting up care coordination and post-secondary opportunities, Wanda has ensured that our students and their families are not only informed but also fully equipped to move forward. Wanda Matos exemplifies what it means to serve with heart and integrity. I hope her work receives the recognition it deserves, as she continues to be a vital force in building stronger futures for the children and families we serve.

With gratitude,

Our Speech Language Pathologists

Today, on National Speech-Language Pathologist Day, we pause to celebrate and honor each of you — not just for the work you do, but for the way you do it.

Your dedication to our students is nothing short of inspiring. You are more than speech-language pathologists — you are advocates, communicators, mentors, and partners. Every day, you bring compassion, creativity, and deep expertise into your work, ensuring that every student has a voice, a path to independence, and a place where they are seen, heard, and valued.

Your collaborative spirit is the heartbeat of our school community. Whether you're teaming up with teachers, families, or support staff, your thoughtful and strategic input helps shape environments where students can thrive. You don’t just support communication — you build bridges to connection, confidence, and engagement.

Thank you for being the kind, motivated, and highly effective professionals that you are. Your impact is profound, and your work is deeply appreciated — not just today, but every day.
