Fun Run Update: We're Out Of This World! Fun Run Update: We're Out Of This World!

Our annual Fun Run is the PTO’s BIGGEST fundraiser of the year, and Team Disney is doing an amazing job! Every dollar raised comes right back to support our students and school. PTO helps pay for buses for field trips, class shirts for every student, classroom funds, assemblies, enrichment activities, special events, and so much more!

Congratulations to Our Second Class Competition Winner!
Congratulations to Mrs. Ostrowski’s 5th grade class for raising the most money during our second competition and earning a PIZZA PARTY! Way to go!

The Donut Party Competition Ends SUNDAY NIGHT!
There is still time to help your class earn a DONUT PARTY! Currently, Mrs. Hamilton’s class is in the lead with $295 raised, but Mrs. Engle’s and Miss Capoferri’s classes are VERY close behind! The competition closes Sunday night at midnight, so keep sharing those fundraising links and getting those donations in!

We Unlocked Our First School-Wide Reward!
Thanks to your incredible support, we reached our first $5,000 goal and LOVED celebrating with Pajama Day this past Friday!

Now, we’re working toward our next goal of $10,000, which will unlock Popsicles & Extra Recess for the entire school! We have already raised $8,605, which means we are just $1,395 away from our next reward! 🚀

Every donation and share brings us closer to our $25,000 school goal and helps PTO continue providing amazing opportunities for our Disney students.

Let’s keep it going, Team Disney! We can do this!

Be a Disney STAR

At Disney Elementary, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) play an important role in creating a safe, respectful, and supportive school environment where students can thrive both academically and socially. PBIS is a school-wide system focused on teaching, modeling, and reinforcing positive behaviors, which helps us build a strong school culture and equips students with important lifelong skills.

Our school-wide behavior expectations are centered on being a Disney STAR:
S – Show Kindness
T – Take Responsibility
A – Always Be Safe
R – Respect Others

On Wednesday, students participated in a PBIS Circuit Training, traveling to different stations throughout the building to learn what it means to be a Disney STAR in various areas, including classrooms, hallways, the playground, lunchroom, bathrooms, and during arrival and dismissal. These stations gave students a chance to see, hear, and practice what STAR behavior looks like in different settings, helping us create clear, consistent expectations for everyone.

We encourage families to review the PBIS Matrix of Expectations at home and discuss how these shared values help make Disney Elementary a place where everyone can learn, grow, and succeed. We are so proud of our students for embracing what it means to be a Disney STAR and we appreciate your continued encouragement and support at home!

PBIS September Character Trait: Kindness PBIS September Character Trait: Kindness

“In a world where you can be anything… be KIND!” 💛

At Disney Elementary, we are proud to focus on a different PBIS Character Trait each month to help our students grow not only academically but also socially and emotionally. For the month of September, our focus is on Kindness — an essential part of being a Disney STAR!

Throughout the month, students will be learning what kindness looks like, sounds like, and feels like in all areas of our school. Being kind helps create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

What does kindness look like at Disney?
✨ Using kind words and a friendly voice
✨ Helping others without being asked
✨ Including everyone — no one sits alone!
✨ Treating classmates, teachers, and our school with respect
✨ Celebrating the successes of others

Teachers will be recognizing students who consistently demonstrate kindness, and these students will have the chance to be celebrated as SuperSTARs at the end of the month. We encourage families to talk with their children about kindness at home and how small actions can make a big difference in our school community.

Together, we can continue to build a positive and supportive environment where every Disney STAR shines bright!

Our 6th grade students had an incredible day at Camp Howell! Students stepped outside their comfort zones while canoeing, zip-lining, playing a Wolf team-building game, and exploring fascinating woodland mammals during skins and skulls.

With the support of our amazing chaperones, students took risks, encouraged one another, and strengthened their relational capacity through teamwork, problem-solving, and shared experiences. We are so grateful for the memories made within our 6th grade community and for everyone who worked together to make it happen!

A BIG Disney shout-out to our 6th grade teachers, Mrs. McGuffey and Miss Capoferri for the time, energy, and planning they put into making this trip such a great experience for our students. We are also incredibly grateful to our PTO for sponsoring the cost of our buses and to our parent chaperones for giving their time and helping make the day safe, fun, and memorable.

This year, our 2nd grade students have started a new ELA curriculum called Wit & Wisdom! This rigorous and engaging curriculum helps students strengthen their reading, vocabulary, critical thinking, and writing skills.

Students recently began Module 0 with a deep dive into Wild About Reading. They are learning new vocabulary, exploring an author’s purpose, making connections between text and art, and building the skills needed to write strong informational, opinion, and narrative pieces.

We are excited to see our 2nd graders grow as readers, thinkers, and writers throughout the year!

All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.

Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.

Parents can use Canvas to

  • Contact their child’s teacher

  • View grades, due dates, and events

  • See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school

  • Support an absent student

  • View classroom and building announcements

  • And more!

For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.

Log into Student Canvas Account on one device

  • For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade: A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
  • For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade: To log in as your student, have your student login to their Canvas account. Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.

Create Parent Account on a second device:

  • Open Canvas Parent Login
  • Choose need a Canvas Account
  • Follow prompts on screen to create account (see below resources for assistance)

September is Attendance Awareness Month September is Attendance Awareness Month

User uploaded image

Everyday Matters!

Regular attendance is one of the most important ways families can support student success. Every day at school gives students opportunities to learn, build relationships, practice routines, and stay connected to their classroom community.

Missing just two days of school each month can add up to chronic absenteeism over the course of the year. Whenever possible, please schedule appointments and vacations outside of school hours and make arriving at school on time a priority.

Of course, if your child is sick, they should stay home and get well. If your child is having difficulty coming to school for another reason, please reach out—we are here to help!

Every day counts, and we love having our Disney students at school!

At Disney Elementary, we want to partner with our families to create a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for all of our students.

Please send your child to school if they are generally healthy and able to participate in their usual day-to-day activities. Avoid keeping children home unless they are truly too sick to engage in learning and school routines.

To support families in making these decisions, we’ve put together a helpful reference chart outlining when to keep your child home and when they can safely return to school for common illnesses.

Thank you for working with us to keep our students and staff healthy and ready to learn!

Extra Clothes Extra Clothes

We kindly ask that all students keep an extra set of clothes in their backpack each day. Throughout the school day, students may experience a variety of situations — such as spills, playground mishaps, or other accidents — that require a change of clothes.

Having an extra set of clothes readily available helps your child stay comfortable and minimizes the need for a call home during the day.

Thank you for helping us keep our students comfortable and ready to learn!

Pets on School Property Pets on School Property

For the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members, dogs and other pets are not permitted on elementary school property.

This policy is in place for several important reasons:

  • Student Safety: Even the most well-trained dogs can behave unpredictably around children, especially in busy or noisy environments.

  • Allergies and Health Concerns: Many students have allergies or sensitivities to animals that can cause discomfort or serious health reactions.

  • Fear and Anxiety: Some children may be fearful of animals, which can interfere with their sense of safety at school.

  • Cleanliness: Preventing animals on school grounds helps us maintain a clean and healthy environment for everyone.

We kindly ask for your cooperation in leaving pets at home when visiting school or dropping off and picking up students. Service animals, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), are of course welcome.

When the red flag is hung outside our front doors, this means indoor line-up. Students only can enter the building thru the main door (door #1) as well as the back door (door #18) starting at 8:20 AM.

Please utilize the car drop-off line and students will enter in the back of the building (door #18). If your child needs assistance, please park in a parking spot and walk your child to the main entrance (door #1). Student drop off is NOT allowed in the bus loop during indoor lineup.

Birthday Treats Birthday Treats

Birthdays are special celebrations at any age, and we love recognizing our students on their big day! However, due to food allergies, dietary restrictions, and the need to maximize learning time, no food items will be allowed for birthday celebrations.

If students would like to bring something to share, they may bring a small, non-food item (such as stickers, pencils, or erasers). These items will be sent home with students at the end of the day.

Additionally, flowers, balloons, and other similar deliveries for students are not permitted at school.

We will continue to celebrate students’ birthdays in meaningful ways within the classroom to make their day special.

Thank you for helping us keep our learning environment safe, inclusive, and focused!

Outside Food Deliveries Outside Food Deliveries

To help us maintain a safe and efficient school environment, we want to remind families of the District’s policy regarding outside food deliveries: Outside food and beverage deliveries are not allowed for students’ breakfast or lunch. This includes: fast food brought in by parents or family members as well as food ordered through delivery services such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub.

All student meals must either be provided through our Fraser Food Service program or be prepared at home and sent with your child. This policy helps us Keep students safe by limiting visitors and unknown deliveries, Reduce office disruptions and avoid added workload for staff during a very busy lunch hour, and supports healthy meal options offered by our district’s Food Service program

If your student forgets their lunch, we will always ensure they receive a school meal so no child goes without lunch. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all Disney students.

Dress Code Reminders Dress Code Reminders

As a reminder, our dress code is a district policy, which is accessible as part of our Student Code of Conduct. The purpose of our dress code is to make sure that our students are dressed for learning success. Parents will be called to bring a change of clothing when students do not follow the district policy. Below are some of the most pertinent dress code guidelines. The following types of clothing are inappropriate for school and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED :

  • Hats, caps, hoods, bandannas, or other head coverings
  • See-through clothing or clothing that reveals students’ midriffs, bottoms, or undergarments
  • Shorts, skirts and dresses shorter than the tip of the student’s index finger when arms are hanging down.
  • Clothes or accessories displaying offensive words and symbols including those related to alcohol, illegal/controlled substances, tobacco products, weapons, sexual references and/or language disruptive to the educational process.
  • Beach-type footwear with exposed toes that can be dangerous during recess play. Sandals with heel straps are allowed.

Tribal Affiliation Tribal Affiliation

In Michigan, schools are required to collect certain student information, such as enrollment, demographics, and program participation, and share it with the Michigan Department of Education. This process is required by state and federal law and helps monitor publicly funded education programs.

A new rule in the State School Aid Act now requires schools to also collect information about students’ tribal affiliations. This change was developed with input from Tribal Nations in Michigan.

Starting this school year, families have the option to share tribal affiliation information. Sharing this information is completely voluntary.

The data will help strengthen communication with Tribal Nations and may allow schools to qualify for additional funding to better support Indigenous students.

If a family chooses to share this information, it will be protected under privacy laws such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), which also prohibits discrimination.

If you would like to report your tribal affiliation, please complete the below form by October 7th.
