Lago Vista Middle School
Friday, November 21, Edition XIII
Have a great Thanksgiving Break! See you Monday, December 1st!
Bridge Testing
In Coach Janson's Mythbusters class, students built bridges out of popsicle sticks and then tested to see how much weight they could hold. The class winners were: 2nd Period: Beckham Gold and Skyler Gerwick - 295 pounds, 3rd Period: Cooper Sargent and Gage Ramirez - 585 pounds, and 4th Period - Cadeyn Beeson and Zander Stasko - RECORD TYING 630 pounds!!
Interview Practice
Viking Valor students previously researched a trade career of choice. They are now completing mock interviews while learning how to be prepared, speak confidently, and to avoid filler words while they practice.
Clay Week!
Students have been building on their pinch pot skills as a starting point, and then using their imagination to create animals.
The clay pieces will be going into the kiln after Thanksgiving break, and then we can glaze our animal ceramics.
Coat Drive - Extended
I know when it's 85 degrees, it's hard to think about coats...however, I'm pretty sure it's going to be cold again at some point and we have many students who don't have warm coats. If you have any cold weather sweatshirts or jackets that you could donate, we can put them to good use. Please drop them off at the front office before December 18th.
Student Pick-Up Reminders
Parents and guardians, please make sure anyone who regularly picks up your student is added to their Ascender account through your Parent Portal. This helps us ensure your child’s safety and smooth pick-up procedures.
If someone different will be picking up your student for a one-time occasion, please email msoffice@lagovistaisd.net to let us know in advance.
Thank you for helping us keep our dismissal process safe and efficient!

Boys Basketball Opens Up Season
7th A
The 7th Grade A teamers took the floor first in the upper gym Thursday night for a battle against the Jarrell Cougars. The Vikings came out hot on offense, with two 3-pointers from Camron Austin and Hudson Stoner, giving them an 18-4 lead after the 1st quarter. A big defensive effort from the Vikings and some scoring from Blaine Kenyon took the lead up to 27-8 going into halftime. In the second half, Lago continued it’s domination with buckets from six different players in the 3rd quarter while the defense stood tall. Simon Engler led the scoring with 9 points, but all 10 players got in the scoring column for a decisive 51-24 victory. Next up is Jarrell Ranch at home, December 4th.
8th A
The 8th Grade A team continued the momentum from their 7th grade brethren from the start. 4 seconds into the game, Kooper Kudrna pushed the pace off the tip-off and got himself to the foul line, setting the fast-paced tone for the game. Six other players scored in the first quarter, giving Lago a 16-10 lead after one. Cameron Johnson and Westin Willeford hit some big 3-pointers in the first half and proved they were a threat from the outside against Jarrell’s zone defense. Tyler Tarlton joined the party, pushing transition and getting some wide open layups. At halftime, the Vikings were up 31-21. Coming out for the second half, a handful of Vikings were in foul trouble, so it was time for everybody to step up, and they responded to the challenge. The 3rd quarter was all about defense and rebounding, with only 6 points allowed. In the 4th, the offense finished strong, with Alex Ocampo scoring 7 to close out the 55-36 victory. Ashton Houston led the scoring with 17 points, but it was absolutely a team win. The next game is another home game, December 4th against Jarrell Ranch.

Laila W and Kailani R created a environment of chaos for Cougars giving them fits in their offense setups. Stella P and Isabel C provided more opportunities on offense as they crashed the boards for offensive rebounds.
Lady Vikings are heading into the Thanksgiving break with 5-0 record and 2-0 district record.
8A
The 8th Lady Vikings cruised to their 5th straight victory on the road @ Jarrell Thursday night. Once again the girls dominated their opponent winning by a score of 49-4. The girls continue to show improvement in all facets of the game. Ball movement on offense is getting better with each possession. Defensively the girls are putting the clamps down with relentless ball pressure and pursuit of the ball in the passing lanes. This group has been fun to watch throughout the first part of our season. Now it's time for the Thanksgiving break before another 5 games before Christmas. We hope that everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving with friends and family and we’ll get back to it in December.
B Teams
The Jarrell Cougars might’ve retracted their claws and cancelled our B-team basketball games, but we bounced back—straight into a pizza party! Instead of stuffing baskets, we stuffed our faces!
