Brrr! Colder Weather Reminders ❄️🧥

As the temperature drops, please keep these important reminders in mind to keep our students safe and warm:

  • Outdoor Recess Policy: Students will continue to go outside for recess as long as the temperature (including wind chill) is 25°F or above. Please send your child to school with appropriate winter gear each day (coats, hats, gloves, etc.).

  • Snow Boots Policy: Snow boots cannot be worn in class. If your student would like to wear snow boots during recess, please send them in a bag so they can change into them at recess times and back into regular shoes for the classroom.

  • Label All Outerwear: Please write your student's name on all jackets, coats, hats, gloves, and boot bags. Our Lost & Found is already growing quickly, and labels make it much easier to return lost items to their owners!

  • Morning Drop-Off Times:

    • Front doors unlock at 7:55 AM.

    • Students may enter classrooms at 8:00 AM.

Please do not drop students off early to wait outside in freezing temperatures.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe, warm, and ready to learn!

Randy Reading

We had our Randy Reading assembly on Friday and we are set to go! Students will bring home reading forms at the end of this week. The contest starts on Sunday, November 1st. Since it is a non-school day, set a reminder so you don't forget to start reading and tracking those minutes!

Students will bring home 2 tracking sheets, 1 for a PBS reading marathon, and 1 for the first week of Randy Reading.

For the PBS challenge, students need to read 600 minutes during the entire month of November.

For Randy Reading, we set different goals each week. Students will receive a new form for Randy Reading each week and will turn in their forms every Friday.

At the end of the month we use the minutes we have tracked from all the Randy Reading forms to calculate each student's total minutes for the entire month. We then send home a note for each child who reads 600+ minutes during the month and reaches the PBS goal. This means you only need to use the Randy Reading forms to track minutes but can use the PBS one as well for fun or to track the monthly minutes on your own.

There are so many prizes students can earn! Every student who turns in a completed Randy Reading form (no matter how many minutes they read) gets entered into a drawing for a prize. Every student who reaches the weekly reading goal (as shown on the reading form) gets a coupon prize (i.e. a free ice cream or kid's meal). The top 2 classrooms with the most minutes get a pizza party! As we read, we track minutes for the entire school and earn fun things like a school-wide free dress day and ice cream day. It's so much fun and we'd love every student to participate so we can earn the top school-wide goal of a surprise assembly!

Please encourage your students to read and turn in those forms!

Good luck!

Randy

Attendance

Each year we will be focusing on attendance including tardies and absences.

We love your children and want them to attend school everyday!

Research shows that missing 10% of school negatively impacts a student’s academic performance.

Being on time is essential too! When students are tardy, they miss out on important morning routines and activities. Please excuse any absences within 10 days.

Exciting incentives throughout the year for students who are RANDY HEROs!

Randy HERO free dress days are for students that have 95% attendance for the month and/or no more than 5 % tardy.
