Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is happening this week at Leyden! Hosted by Operation Snowball and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), this annual campaign is the nation’s longest-running drug and violence prevention awareness initiative. The goal is to educate young people about the dangers of illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol while encouraging healthy choices and a drug-free lifestyle.

Throughout the week, students can participate in activities during lunch, with each day featuring a themed spirit day. It’s a fun way to get involved while promoting healthy choices and a drug-free lifestyle!

Leyden Students Make a Difference in Our Communities

On Saturday, October 24, more than 300 students representing over 30 clubs from East and West Leyden participated in more than 20 service projects across seven communities in and around Leyden.

The day began with a pancake breakfast prepared by Food Services and District Administration, followed by a morning of community service and a pizza lunch. Thank you to our Eagles for giving their time to help others and make a positive impact in the community!

Feeding the Children with Spanish Club and Spanish Honor Society

Members of Spanish Club and Spanish Honor Society visited Feed My Starving Children, where they hand-packed meals for malnourished children around the world. Through this hands-on service experience, students helped support an organization working to provide nutritious meals to children in need.

Thank you to our Eagles for giving their time and making a difference in the community!

Course Selection Begins in November

An opportunity for families and students to plan for the future.

Beginning in November, school counselors will meet individually with students to review and discuss their course selections for the 2027–2028 school year. These conversations help students choose courses that reflect their academic interests, strengths, and future goals.

How Can Families Help?

  1. Review student progress. Log in to the Home Access Center to check current grades, academic progress, and areas where additional support may be needed.

  2. Talk about the future. Ask your student about their interests, career goals, and plans after high school. It’s okay if they don’t have everything figured out yet.

  3. Explore course options together. Encourage your student to consider classes that match their interests, provide an appropriate challenge, and support their future goals.

  4. Discuss alternate courses. Some electives may not be available because of scheduling. Help your student identify alternate courses they would also enjoy taking.

  5. Review final selections. After meeting with their counselor, encourage your student to review their course selections with you.

A Few Questions to Ask Your Student:

  • What classes are you most excited about taking next year?

  • Are there any new subjects or career pathways you would like to explore?

  • How will these courses help you work toward your goals after high school?

Important Deadline: All course selections for the 2027–2028 school year must be finalized by December 18, 2026.
