"The Art of a Comeback"
Progress isn't always a straight line; sometimes it’s a series of falls and recoveries. Following our look at persistence, we’re exploring a timeless Japanese proverb that reminds us: If you had to crawl yesterday, stand up today. Why is it important that "standing up eight" is the ultimate key to success for our students, staff, and community.

Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
Get up...
Good morning!
I hope you are having a great weekend with the amazing sunshine and the not so warm temperatures! We are making our way through this cold blast and have until tomorrow at noon where we can see consistent single digit temperatures which will feel like a heatwave! We are flying through January and we are down to it's final week! Our activities are moving quickly and the opportunities to support our student athletes (speechletes) are coming to a close so take advantage if you can!
We touched on this last week: if you can’t fly, run; if you can’t run, walk; and if you can’t walk, crawl. Martin Luther King Jr.s' message was clear—persistence is the heartbeat of progress. But in the reality of our daily lives, we know that movement isn’t always a smooth forward glide. Sometimes, life doesn’t just slow us down; it knocks us down.
In those moments, remember the strength found in the Japanese proverb: "Fall seven times, stand up eight." This isn't just a mantra for the classroom or the office; it is a strategy for life. Resilience isn't about having a perfect record or never experiencing failure. It is about the "plus one." If life pushes you down seven times, your only job is to find the strength to stand up that eighth time.
If you had to crawl yesterday, stand up today. For our students, that might mean tackling a subject that feels impossible. For our staff, it might mean restarting a project that went off the rails. For our patrons, it might mean returning to a dream you put on hold.
Success is not the absence of obstacles; success is getting up one more time than you went down. Whatever your "forward" looks like today—whether it’s a sprint, a crawl, or simply the act of standing back up—know that you have the heart to do it and the support to do so as well. Keep rising!
Have a great rest of your week!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
"Gall down seven times, stand up eight."
Japanese Proverb
Sincerely,
Tucker Tejkl
