Head Cheetah's Message

Dear Families,

What a wonderful week it has been! Our cheetahs have been making memories with a slew of year-end events. We had 4 beautiful days for our Fun Day activities. Thank you to all of the families who came to volunteer! On Tuesday, there was a grade 3 assembly to recognize our Hero Essay award winners; and we ended the week with our much-loved Kindergarten Show! Our Kindergarten students sang beautifully and entertained our guests with music about friendship, kindness, and growing strong! We are so proud of all of our students, and we can’t wait to continue the celebrations next week.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Joey & Andrea

Grade 3 Hero Essay Contest Grade 3 Hero Essay Contest

Several weeks ago, the East Hampton Lions Club sponsored a grade 3 Hero Essay Contest. Tuesday, during a special recognition assembly, the Lions visited Memorial School to recognize the winner in each grade 3 class. We are so proud of our Hero Essay writers! Thank you to all who participated. The Lions were so impressed with our cheetahs' passion for writing about their personal heroes.

2022 Summer Math Challenge 2022 Summer Math Challenge

zoom_out_map

Dear Memorial Families,

As we near the end of the school year, we want to make you aware of the various opportunities the district will be offering over the summer months in order to support your learner’s continued engagement with mathematics. We recognize there are many summer activities for students to support your student’s needs. With participation in any of the activities, your child will be able to maintain their math skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated.

East Hampton’s Grade-Level Summer Math Packets

Commissioner’s Summer Math Challenge

Reflex Math (Fact Fluency Practice) for students currently in grades 2 & 3

Details about the opportunities and how your learner can participate can be found by clicking the various links. All Memorial students received a hard copy of the district’s Summer Math Packet this week. We will communicate a due date for completed summer activities in the fall

and plan for a fun celebration!

Please reach out to district math specialists, Lis Ellis (K-2) and Andrea Winiarski (3-5), with any questions.

We hope you have “sum” fun with math over the summer!

Memorial School is so excited to kick off our summer reading program!

As a school community we applaud all you have done to support your child’s engagement and learning this school year. As we approach the gifts of summer, and a well-deserved break, it will be critically important for your learner to continue to grow as an independent reader, and to recognize reading as one of the many positive life choices they can make.

In an effort to maintain students’ level of reading independence and prevent summer reading loss, we are encouraging all students to set summer reading goals.

For 3rd Graders:

This goal should include, but is not limited to participating in our “One School, One Book” initiative. Today your reader received a brand new copy of The Wild Robot Escapes. Students have listened to book one in the series in library class, and are now ready to continue the exciting adventure independently. The audiobook version is also available.

Please take note, with the book, readers have received a reading log and a project choice board. These will be asked for in the fall.

For K-2nd Graders

This week in library class, readers have discussed goals and have received their summer reading log. This log will be asked for in the fall and readers who turn it in will be invited to participate in a reading celebration. In addition, each student was gifted a book of their choice to kick off their summer reading adventure!

Third Grade Moving Up Lawn Signs

Two years ago, due to the state-wide school shutdown, our third grade students were unable to participate in any of their year-end celebrations. As a way to recognize their achievements, and their time at Memorial School, families lined the school entryway with signs congratulating our rising fourth graders. This has now become a tradition that our students and families look forward to. Therefore, in response to popular demand, we are once again inviting you to show our students how much we care about them by sending them off to Center School in style! THIS IS STRICTLY OPTIONAL. However, if your family would like to create a congratulatory sign for the third grade student in your life who is moving on to Center School, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • All signs must be no larger than 24" L X 18" H.
  • Signs may be hammered into the ground no earlier than Monday, June 13th.
  • Signs should only be placed along the left sign of the entryway (upon entering the property).
  • You may use whatever materials you choose; but keep in mind that the signs will be exposed to the elements.
  • Signs should go home with you following your student's Moving Up ceremony. If they are not taken home, they will be discarded following the last day of school on Thursday, June 16th.

We can't wait to see all of the signs beautifying Memorial's entry.

  • Evans at 9:00

  • Hennessey at 9:00
  • Rossi at 9:45

Each ceremony will be held in the cafetorium, and will last approximately 30 minutes. Following the ceremony, there will be time for pictures in our front lobby. Bring your cameras! We can't wait to see you.
