Principal's Book Club Principal's Book Club

For the first time in three years we relaunched our in-person Principal's Book Club this past month, reading Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Big thank you to the Museum of Jewish Heritage for bringing a powerful Holocaust survivor testimony to our students. Also big thank you to parent, Stephanie Samperi-Gonzalez for helping organize the event. At MS 50 we believe that independent reading is critical to developing a life-long love of reading. If your child is ever not sure what to do for homework, ask them to read their independent reading book!

8th Grade - Expansionism and Imperialism

In 8th Grade Social Studies our students are exploring the expansionist policies of the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Using primary sources, students are examining the ways in which the United States justified taking territory from indigenous peoples and the lands of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. The unit culminates in a socratic seminar where students participate in a class-wide, evidence-based discussion on if and when the United States should be involved in the affairs of foreign countries.

Vision Screenings Friday Vision Screenings Friday

We will be holding free vision screenings for all students this Friday! The New York Vision Program of Helen Keller International will be coming to MS 50 to provide vision services. This vision screening does not replace the need for a more comprehensive eye exam. The process will include a brief, universal screener for all students and individual meetings with an eye doctor for students who need it. Students who need them will be able to choose from a variety of glasses options on the same day, all for free! If you would not like your child to receive this free vision screening, please complete the opt-out form on Operoo.

School Surveys School Surveys

School Surveys were backpacked home with your students last week Friday! Please fill it out and return it either to a mailbox, to school, or complete it online at the link below.
