Principal's Message
Dear Vedder Families,
Thank you to everyone who came in for conferences this week. Those conversations are one of our favourite parts of the year, because they’re where we get to know your kids through your eyes. Our teachers stayed late into the evening to meet with as many of you as possible, and the warmth and support you brought into those meetings meant a great deal to all of us. We hope you enjoyed the long weekend and that everyone is rested and ready for a very fun week ahead.
Halloween Spirit Week Is Here!
Get the costumes, the colours, and the creativity ready, Vipers. Halloween Spirit Week starts Monday, and we want to see the whole school get into it. Each day has its own theme, so take a look at the schedule below and help your child plan their looks for the week. Students don’t need to buy anything new. Some of the best outfits come straight out of the closet or the dress-up bin, and the most important part is joining in. Spirit weeks are a big part of what makes middle school memorable, and the hallways are always better when everyone takes part. Our staff will be dressing up too, so keep an eye out!
Viper Training Homework Club
We’re excited to share that Viper Training Homework Club now runs after school until 3:15 pm, with two staff members there to support students. It’s a calm, focused space where kids can finish homework, catch up on assignments they missed while away, or get extra help from a caring adult.
If you think your child would benefit from some extra time working with an adult after school, please reach out to their classroom teacher. They’ll be happy to talk it through with you and can sign your child up.
New VMS Gear
Show your Viper pride! We have a fresh selection of VMS gear available to order for students and families. It’s the same Under Armour line used by Sardis and GW athletics, so it’s built to last. My own kids have used the backpacks for three years now, and they still look great after everything they’ve been through. Order details are below.
We also want to give a big shout-out to the teachers and community volunteers who coach and sponsor our sports teams. They give so much of their time so our students can play, compete, and belong to a team, and we are so grateful for them.
PAC Hazelnut Fundraiser
Our wonderful PAC is selling locally grown and produced hazelnuts. They’re delicious, they make great holiday gifts, and they support a cause close to our hearts. All proceeds go toward our subscription to Open Parachute, a social-emotional learning program our students can use in the classroom and at home. PAC has generously agreed to cover the subscription, so every bag you buy helps make that possible.
Thank you for sharing your kids with us. We have a lot of fun coming up, and we can’t wait to see all the costumes this week!
With gratitude,
Sarah
