Looking Back - 50 years of Parkview. Parkview High School 1076-2026, Tradition, Pride, Success
zoom_out_map Show in original size

We would like to welcome you to take a look back at 50 years of Parkview!

This year we are excited to celebrate Parkview's 50th Anniversary. Over the school year, you may notice our clubs, athletics and activities all finding a way to join in the celebration. They may have alumni at their games, guest conductors at their concerts or 50th themed events.

In this section we will feature images and facts about Parkview's first 50 years!

DID YOU KNOW?

When Parkview High School opened in 1976 it housed the Gwinnett Vocational Education Center at Parkview which offered a variety of technical education programs to students. In its first years, its offerings included auto body, transportation, construction, cosmetology, drafting, electronics, and metals. Four new programs— child care; hotel, restaurant, and tourism; health occupations; and marketing were added in the 1980s. In the 1990s, Gwinnett County Public Schools consolidated its two vocational programs into what is today called Maxwell High School of Technology, freeing up much needed classroom space for Parkview’s growing student population.

Image from the 1978 yearbook featuring vocational students. In the main image a student is typing at a desk, above is an image of two students hand stitching, the image to the left of the previous is a male student working on a car and below there is an image of a student sitting at a drafting table working on a sketch and the last image is two more students sewing.

HOSA Kicks off Their Conference Season HOSA Kicks off Their Conference Season

I’m excited to share that on October 15th, several of our students proudly represented Parkview HOSA at Fall Leadership Rally at Six Flags Over Georgia! This event officially kicked off our conference season and gave students the opportunity to compete, connect, and grow as emerging healthcare leaders.

Our students participated in State Sticker Design, Digital Brochure Design and Statesman Award Testing, showcasing their creativity, technical skills, and knowledge of HOSA leadership principles. They did an incredible job representing our school and demonstrated the professionalism and enthusiasm we strive to build in every classroom.

Results:

2nd Place: Digital Brochure Design

3rd Place: Digital Brochure Design

Statesman Award Testing Top Finishers: Omotoyosi Ahmed, Wilson Chen, Hiyab Gebreyohannes, Sana Josufi, Khwaish Patel, Joell Blaise, Kaden Nguyen

If you see these students, please congratulate them as they have worked so hard for this honor! Their performance reflected not only their hard work but also the continued support they receive from our faculty.

Thank you for encouraging these students in and out of the classroom. Experiences like this remind us how valuable it is to combine classroom learning with authentic, hands-on opportunities for growth.

Let’s keep the momentum going as we move into the rest of the conference season; our students are off to a strong start!

A collage of 5 photos, showing high school students in a computer science class working on their "Micro:Pets" projects. Panels show students coding on laptops, presenting their work, and the finished papercraft pets containing embedded Micro:Bit.

In Parkview CTAE classes, we take programming skills from the classroom and use them in the real world!

In our AP Computer Science Principles classes (see image, right), we learn to program our own "Micro:Pets" using the tiny, but mighty, Micro:Bit.

The goal? To design a friend to play with and keep you company! This isn't just about loops and variables; it's about using our actual feelings to design a companion for actual people, even including an LED face to show how happy it is. 🙂

You can learn how to make Micro:Pets, and other fun programs, when you take a CS class at Parkview!

Disability Acceptance and Inclusion Mural Disability Acceptance and Inclusion Mural

Disability Acceptance and Inclusion Mural. From Left to Right, there is an African American student in a wheelchair on a basketball court. There is a blue background and white butterflies overhead. Next the mural moves into an office with books shelves that have books and potted plants on it. There is a service dog with a harness sitting in front of the bookshelves and a girl at a desk reading braille. Then the mural has three arms with the hands spelling ASL and again white butterflies over them. There is also a disabilities pride flag.

In the Parkview High School hallway, a new mural now reminds us all of the power of representation and community. Thoughtfully designed by Deepali Patel, this mural was created to celebrate students with disabilities and emphasize the importance of seeing every member of our school as an essential part of our student body.

On the left, the mural features wheelchair basketball as part of the Special Olympics. In the middle is a blind woman reading a braille book with tactile readable dots, a guide dog, and the autism acceptance symbol on her shirt. She is wearing red as part of the #RedInstead movement, which honors autistic voices when it comes to talking about their educational needs. On the right side flows the disabilities pride flag, each stripe representing a different type of disability.

Towards the bottom are hands spelling ASL in American Sign Language. The surrounding plants represent the motif that we all grow together, just differently. “I’ve always believed in the power of art as a unifying force.” Deepali said. “This mural is not only about educating the general population, but also about spotlighting the creative and resilient ways that the disabled community have adapted to life without sight, hearing, or mobility. Already, the mural has sparked conversations and smiles in the hallway. Teachers, students, and administrators alike have paused to appreciate just the vibrant colors, but the message behind them. The hope is that the mural will continue to be a permanent reminder of special education and special needs students’ value to Parkview High School.

Friendly Reminder

Evolve System Starts This Week Evolve System Starts This Week

This is a reminder that starting Monday, October 20, we will begin using the Evolv weapons detection system during morning arrival. Our school will also be staffed with School Safety Officers (SSOs). SSOs are security personnel whose primary responsibility will be to operate the Evolv system during the school day, after morning arrival.

The Evolv system is part of our district’s multi-layered approach to school safety and is designed to be fast, non-invasive, and effective.

What to Expect During Morning Arrival:

  • Students will walk through Evolv scanners at four designated entry points. The four entry points will be in H-Building, the Main Office entry, the Main Gym, and the back of A-Building.

  • Phones, keys, and wallets can stay in your bookbags, pockets, and purses.

  • If an alert is triggered, staff will conduct a brief secondary screening.

  • Please arrive a few minutes early to allow for smooth entry.

Once the initial morning arrival is complete and the school day has begun, all late students and visitors to our campus will enter through the Main Office entry.

Thank you for your continued support as we implement this important safety measure.

Parkview Attendance Office

Attendance Office Reminders

Student Check-ins/Checkouts:

  • Students arriving late must enter through the main front entrance. They should check in using the tablets and go directly to class.

  • All checkouts must happen before 1:30 PM. No exceptions. This allows us to prepare for dismissal, thank you for your support.

  • If you know ahead of time your student needs to leave early, you may do the following:

    • Send a written note with student in the morning. Note must be received by the Attendance Office before 7:15 AM.

    • The note must include: Student’s first and last name, date and time of checkout, and parent phone number.

    • The attendance clerk will provide a pass to the student to leave at the designated time without the parent needing to come inside. The students can then checkout at the Attendance Office and meet their parents/guardian outside at the time listed.

    • Attendance clerks will verify all notes before releasing students. If they cannot reach a parent, the student will not be allowed to check out.

  • We encourage families to regularly check student attendance in ParentVue.
