It has been such a joy welcoming back our familiar faces and meeting our newest Dewey Tigers. The first weeks of school are always an important time as we focus on building strong classroom and school communities. Along with reconnecting and making new friends, students are also learning and practicing our behavioral expectations—not only in the classroom, but across all areas of the school.

We invite you to join us this Thursday for Back to School Night, an important evening that helps set the stage for the year ahead. This is a valuable opportunity to connect with teachers, learn about grade-level expectations, and partner together to support your child’s success. More details are included below.

I'd like to introduce some of the new members of the Dewey Team!

As we prepare for a successful new school year, San Juan Unified School District encourages families to complete the Annual Student Information Update as soon as possible.

The Annual Student Information Update asks families to update emergency contact information, complete the school funding form, get the 2025-26 family handbook and review demographic information to help schools prepare for the new school year.

Joining the Dewey PFO (Parent-Faculty Organization) simply means you’re contributing to our ongoing efforts to support the school, provide for classroom needs, and put on fun community events! You do not HAVE to go to meetings… but you are ALWAYS welcome! (We meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6pm in room 14… please join us Sept. 8th.) There is also a friendly class competition for PFO Membership, so the classes with the highest percentages (1 class each in TK-3rd and 4th-6th) will get an extra BONUS page in the yearbook! Each individual membership counts towards your class total, so moms & dads, grandmas & grandpas, aunts & uncles… any adult member of a Dewey household can join! 😊
