Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Families,
There is a lot to celebrate in the month of February. Valentineβs Day is a time to celebrate kindness, friendship, and appreciation within our school community. We began this process in the last week of January during our Kindness Awareness week. We provided students with classroom lessons that taught to others why it's important to be kind every day. Whether through a kind note, a thoughtful gesture, or simply including others, we encourage students and staff to spread positivity and respect in ways that make everyone feel valued. Most importantly, we shared that small acts of kindness can make a big differenceβtoday and every day. π
During this month, we also celebrate Black History Month, a time to honor the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Black individuals and communities. In our Dual Language Immersion program, this connects directly to one of our 3 pillars of Dual Immersion: Sociocultural Competence by uplifting diverse voices, valuing multiple perspectives, and deepening our understanding of shared histories. As we learn and grow together, we reaffirm our commitment to equity, inclusion, and respect across cultures and languages.
This month we will have various opportunities for parents and families to participate in school activities such as participating in the parent GATE meeting, the 6th Grade Science Camp informational meeting, our Monday Family Literacy Mornings, and our general PTO meetings. As you know, parent and family engagement is essential to student success, strengthening the partnership between home and school and creating a supportive community where all students can thrive. As we are entering field trip season, we ask that you complete the parent volunteer form (located in the office) so that you can support in shaparoning in your child's field trips. Please don't wait until the last minute to complete these forms because it takes time to process through our District HR department. To obtain more information on field trip participation, please communicate with your child's teacher.
I hope that all these messages I'm sharing with you today reach you in a positive and supportive manner. I'm thankful for your partnership and the support you offer our school community.
In partnership,
Dr. Melvin Cortez , Allison Principal
