August 23, 2026
School will be in session tomorrow, Monday, August 24.
Aloha Damien ʻOhana,
The National Weather Service (NWS) reminds all residents to remain vigilant, as weather conditions can change quickly. Please continue to monitor official weather updates and be prepared to adjust plans as conditions evolve. We will keep you informed if any weather impacts school operations.
As we move through this weather season, please ensure your family is prepared and informed. We also ask that you continue to check-in on your fellow neighbors and keep one another in your thoughts and prayers, especially those who are still recovering from Hurricane Lala last week. A little kindness, patience, and support can go a long way as our community continues to recover.
Please take a moment to answer this weekʻs poll as we would like feedback to strengthen our weather-related communication for our community.
Stay safe, Monarchs!

A Special Presentation for Grades 9-12 on Aug 31
A Meaningful Conversation with Jason Evert
We are excited to welcome Jason Evert to Damien Memorial School as he speaks with our high school students about faith, relationships, identity, and making choices that reflect their God-given dignity and worth. Through his engaging and thoughtful message, Jason will challenge our students to consider how their decisions shape who they are becoming and how they can live with purpose, respect, and integrity.
This opportunity reflects our commitment to educating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and supporting our young men and women as they navigate the opportunities and challenges of today’s world.
Mr. Evert is a well-known Catholic author, podcaster, and international chastity speaker. He co-founded the Chastity Project and has spoken to more than a million young people globally about human sexuality, the Theology of the Body, and virtue.
STAR Assessment Window: Aug 31-Sept 8
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting student learning and growth, students in Grades 6–12 will participate in STAR assessments (math and reading). The assessment window is August 31 through September 8 in the fall and late April in the spring. Each assessment can take between 25-40 minutes.
STAR is an adaptive assessment, which means the questions adjust based on each student’s responses. As students answer questions correctly or incorrectly, the assessment adapts to provide questions that are appropriately challenging for their individual level. This allows us to gain a more accurate picture of each student’s current skills and areas for growth. Students can take the amount of time needed to complete each assessment. Generally, most students finish each assessment within 30-45 minutes.
STAR results provide teachers with valuable information to help inform instruction, identify student strengths and areas for support, and monitor academic growth throughout the school year. Remind your child that STAR is an opportunity to show what they know - not something to stress about.
