Well sports fans, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I hope everyone has enjoyed some time off, some time with family (ok ... that's probably a 50/50) and A LOT of good food over the last few days. :)

Despite the 2-day school week, the sports schedule was full (... like our bellies on Thursday) with boys & girls hoops in action!

A Fox Sports TRADITION is to share turkey legs with the winners on THANKSGIVING ... so once again, let's do the same here in BricksCenter by serving them up for special/unique accomplishments by our student-athletes!

(John Madden voice) BOOM - you see right here ... it's time for BricksCenter!

Basketball

Girls

The Brickies made the most of a "short week" by playing two games ... one on the road against Munster to open the NCC slate and the other a home contest against Calumet after Thanksgiving.

On Tuesday night, Hobart traveled to Columbia Ave to square off with the Munster Mustangs in the NCC opener for both schools. Coming out of the gate, the 'Stangs were locked in on defense and held a 9-3 advantage after 8 minutes of play. In the 2nd quarter, Hobart began to break down the Munster zone and find some scoring lanes ... playing even with the hosts and trailing only 17-10 at the break!! Unfortunately, our Brickie shooting went ice cold after the break, which enabled Munster to seize control on the scoreboard. Throughout the second half, our girls BATTLED HARD, but never could get going on offense and ultimately lost a tough one 51-18. Senior Hallie Pendleton scored 8 points to go along with her 5 rebounds ... junior Riley Weber tallied 6 points and also pulled down 5 rebounds for Hobart in the loss.

Saturday afternoon, the Calumet Warriors came to town for a non-conference matchup and the Bricks wasted no time in seizing control as our girls played some TENACIOUS D-D-D-DEFENSE and raced to a 20-2 first quarter lead! Hobart kept the pedal to the medal throughout the second stanza and held a 49-6 advantage at the break!! WOW! Over the final 16 minutes, the Brickies put the car on cruise control and won going away 74-20. Hobart got double-digit scoring from sophomore Kurah Krucina (14 points) and seniors Ladan Weinman (12 points) & Audrey Wendel (10 points)! The Bricks actually saw EVERY GIRL who dressed for the game score at least one basket - overall it was a great team effort!

The Bricks are currently 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in NCC play. Hobart will host Portage on Tuesday. LET'S GO LADIES!!

Boys

The boys cagers also WORK WORK WORKed to get the most out of a short week as they opened the 2024-2025 season with back-to-back road contests on Wednesday & Saturday!

Wednesday night, everyone was back in town for Thanksgiving and to celebrate, our boys opened the 2024-2025 regular season by THUMPING Boone Grove 71-42 ... WOW! On the first possession of the game, junior guard Erik Kingery BURIED a 3-pointer to get things going and the Brickies led 17-11 after one quarter of play. Over the next 8 minutes, Hobart sped up the pace and got the Wolves to race up & down the floor, but the hosts couldn't keep up and the Bricks took a 42-21 cushion into the halftime break!! Our boys came out of the locker room to start the 3rd quarter, scored 10 consecutive points and removed any hope that Boone had for a comeback! Senior Aidan Leonard had a MONSTER game with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists! Sophomore Paxson Hicko poured in 16 points and junior Ryan Basham added 14 in the season-opening win!

On Saturday night, the wheels on the yellow bus went 'round & 'round over to Griffith for a non-conference contest. The host Panthers found their shooting early and jumped out to a 17-11 lead after 8 minutes of play. Their hot shooting continued through the 2nd quarter and put our boys in a 38-22 hole at the half. The Brickies BATTLED HARD to get back into the game - pressing the issue on both ends of the floor, but the Panther lead was too much to overcome. Final score: Griffith 85, Hobart 61. Basham and senior Felix Lopez each scored a team-high 17 points and Leonard finished with his second double-double in as many games with 10 pts & 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Brickie cagers are an even 1-1 on the year and will be on the road again on Wednesday against the South Central Satellites. DON'T STOP NOW BOYS!!

Thanksgiving is always a tough week to be a wrestler, so the Brickies got the week off from competition and used some extra practice time to WORK WORK WORK on fundamentals that will help down the road.

Can you believe our girls only have a month until the IHSAA Sectional?

Can you believe our boys will FINALLY have their first matches of the season next week?

Hold onto your seats, the next TWWWWWOOOOOOOOO months should be EXCITING!!
