A Word from Dr. Drummond

Dear West End Families,

Greetings! As we step into February, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful start to the year and share some exciting updates and important information for the month ahead.

February is Black History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the rich contributions of African Americans throughout history. The RCS theme for Black History Month is African Americans and labor. Our school will host a PTO program on February 20th at 6:00 pm highlighting The Entertainer by Scott Joplin and Down by the Riverside, which will feature our 1st grade students. We invite students to research famous African Americans and share information on our morning news program, WEETV. PreK through 2nd grade will have a poster contest. We will also have a door decorating contest, Mrs. Boyd will display and highlight Civil Rights Movement books in the media center, and Mrs. Hagge will help students create artwork inspired by famous African Americans. We encourage families to continue the conversation at home by exploring books, films, and discussions that highlight African American history and culture.

Valentine’s Day, February 14th, is just around the corner! On February 13th, students are welcome to participate in classroom celebrations. We will once again ask students to send in a donation of $3 to allow us to provide all students pizza, bottled water, and a Valentine treat. Valentines' parties will begin at 1:45 pm, and parents are invited to join us.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on March 18th. This is a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, review progress, and set goals for the rest of the school year. Scheduling details will be sent home soon. Please reach out to the front office if you have any questions.

Winter Weather Reminder: February often brings unpredictable weather. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess, including warm coats, hats, and gloves. Please remember to label coats and jackets with your student's name, so they can be returned if misplaced. In case of inclement weather, school closures or delays will be communicated through social media, School Status, and our website.

Upcoming Events: Here are some key dates to mark on your calendar:

  • February 6: Progress Reports

  • February 7: Fun Friday- Hawaiian Tropical Twist

  • February 13: Class Valentines Day Parties

  • February 14: No School

  • February 17: No School; Presidents Day

  • February 20: Family Literacy Night; Parent Volunteer Training 5:30 pm; PTO performance by 1st grade 6:00 pm; Bingo for Books 6:30 pm

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership in creating a positive and enriching learning environment for our students. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, suggestions, or concerns. Together, we make West End a special place to learn and grow.

Warm regards,

Dr. Drummond
