West Point El. Parent Update
Week of February 16, 2025
Dear West Point Families,
Happy Presidents Day weekend. We hope you are enjoying this time with your families, even with the rain and snow. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday.
On Tuesday we will be holding a lockdown drill. Please reassure your students that we practice these drills so we don't need to be afraid. In an emergency situation, we have a plan to help us be safe, and we practice this plan so that everyone knows what to do. Please see "School Information" below for additional information.
Our PTA is in need of volunteers to help with the Spelling Bee, Read Across America Week, the Book Fair, Teacher Appreciation Week, and Field Day. Please contact our PTA President, Christie Maxfield, if you can help with any of these events. Any amount of help is greatly appreciated! 801-755-7939

Lockdown Drill on Tuesday
Hello parents,
West Point Elementary will conduct a lockdown drill on Tuesday, February 16.
A lockdown means students and teachers clear the hallways, lock down their rooms, turn out the lights, move out of sight and maintain silence. They remain silent until first responders clear hallways and unlock each door. Parents and visitors inside the building follow these lockdown procedures as well.
A lockdown is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. In an actual lockdown, the school would contact 911 and local police and other emergency agencies would gather at the school to coordinate the response. The situation is then under the command of the lead police agency.
During a real lockdown, parents will be informed and instructed by the Davis School District. Initial information is distributed through a call-out, which includes an e-mail and text message (if you opted in to receive texts). That being said, please take a few minutes to update your phone numbers and emergency contacts.
Updates would be posted to the school’s website, as well as the district’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you are not yet connected to the district’s Facebook or Twitter accounts, I recommend you do so.
We appreciate your cooperation as we practice lockdown procedures with your child. We value your child and their safety and want to be prepared in the event of an actual threat.
Thank you!
Marjorie Conrad, Principal
West Point Elementary
Health Protocols
Attendance Adds Up
Please be aware of your students' attendance and help them to be at school every day. We understand that students who are sick need to be home. (Please see the above DSD Health Protocol.) However, missing a day of school here and there adds up quickly and puts students behind. Thank you for your support!
Kindergarten Priority Registration
Kindergarten Priority Registration for the 2025-26 school year is now underway through Feb. 28 in the Davis School District. Both full-day and half-day options are available. Please read the attached letter to incoming kindergarten parents. We would appreciate if you could let neighbors with incoming kindergarten students know that we are registering students now for next year. Registration packets are in the office and on our website. You can also click on the following link to list your student's name, and the office will contact you with registration information. https://forms.office.com/r/gaRFdZ8V6n
Thank you!
Evaluate Davis Parent Surveys
Evaluate Davis parent surveys are now open on your MyDSD account through February 28. We hope you will take a minute to fill out these surveys and let us know how we are doing. We value your feedback!
Experience the Magic
Magical Manners
This week's manner is "Speak with Confidence." When we speak with confidence, others are better able to understand what we are saying. We do this by looking people in the eye as we speak clearly, audibly, and politely. This skill takes practice, but we can better connect with others and have conversations with them when we can speak with others with confidence and kindness.

Game of the Week
February's LETTERING Focus - C is for Confidence
We are so excited about our new attribute for the month! This week we are beginning our focus on C, which stands for confidence. Confidence is being comfortable with who you are. You know your strengths and weaknesses, and you know you can keep getting better through practice and effort. You can celebrate the successes of others as well as your own. Being confident in themselves is something our students need!
Your students will be working on activities throughout the month that help them understand what it is to be confident and to start to build that quality within themselves. Be sure to ask them about the things they are doing in their LETTERing books!
February Brag Tags
We have two more weeks for students to earn their February attendance and reading brag tags. Please continue to encourage your students to earn their brag tags! Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.

Language Immersion Opportunities
The dual-language immersion application is live for the upcoming school year. We are fortunate to have two dual-language immersion schools in our community. Syracuse Elementary offers Chinese, and Buffalo Point Elementary offers Spanish.
If your child will be a first-grader next year, you might want to consider applying for dual-language immersion. Students entering higher grades may be eligible but must pass a language test. You can access the application and information about dual-language immersion at the following link. https://www.davis.k12.ut.us/o/dsd/page/elementary-dual-language-immersion
