Dear Sherrelwood Families,

We are so excited to wrap up October together during Parent-Teacher Conferences! In our competency-based learning environment, conferences are a wonderful opportunity for students to take pride in demonstrating their progress, growth, and mastery. Our team deeply values these moments to partner with you and build strong bridges between home and school.

If you haven’t signed up yet, please check your student’s ClassDojo for scheduling details—our goal is 100% family participation, and we can’t wait to see you!

While you are here for conferences, be sure to check out everything happening around the building:

  • Student Work Displays: Take a stroll through our hallways to admire the incredible academic work and artwork our students have proudly created!

  • Sherrelwood Panorama Survey: Stop by a survey station to share your valuable feedback on where we shine and how we can continue to grow. Your voice helps shape our school community!

  • Scholastic Book Fair: Browse a great selection of books to ignite your child’s love for reading.

  • Meet Our Specialist Team: Visit our interventionists in their classrooms! Mr. H, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Herrera are looking forward to connecting with you and sharing how they support our learners every day.

  • School Office & Fees: Stop by the main office to take care of any outstanding school fees with Mrs. Laura.

It’s going to be a fun week with our first Spirit Week of the year and our PTO Halloween Glow Party on Friday! Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making Sherrelwood such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Family Engagement Tip: Making the Most of Conferences

Learning is a continuous journey of growth, mastery, and student ownership. Conferences aren't just a traditional check-in—they are a celebration of progress and a collaborative planning space for your child’s next steps!

Here are three quick ways you can engage with your student’s learning journey during conference week:

  1. Ask Your Learner to Lead the Way: As you walk through the hallways to view student work displays, ask your child: "Which project or piece of work are you most proud of, and why?" Letting students explain what they learned helps reinforce their agency and pride in mastering new skills.

  2. Focus on the "Next Step" in Conversations: During your conference, teachers will share where your child is currently demonstrating mastery and what competencies they are working toward next. Great questions to ask include: "What goal is my child working on right now?" and "How can we practice this skill at home?"

  3. Share Your Voice for Our School: Partnership is a two-way street! Please take 10 minutes while you are in the building to complete the Sherrelwood Panorama Survey. Your honest feedback gives us vital insight into what is working well and where we can grow to better serve our students and families.

Thank you for being our active partners in education—we look forward to learning and growing together this week!
