Cool Beans Café Cool Beans Café

As our last full week of school comes to a close, unfortunately, so does Cool Beans Café: we are closed for the season! Students from our MD program served fresh coffee to Alder staff every Friday throughout the year! This prevocational experience is greatly beneficial for our students, and the opportunity to deliver and greet staff provides social opportunities that mean the most!

Our final barista of the week for the year is a student who has shown tremendous growth, not only since entering Alder, but over the course of our Cool Beans adventure. He is one of our 8th grade graduating students who deserves recognition for the positive attitude he puts forth each and every day! Congratulations Yandel!!

Thank you AtlantiCare! Thank you AtlantiCare!

Special thanks to AtlantiCare for donating supplies to Cool Beans Cafe, we are very grateful!

Teacher Feature Teacher Feature

Mrs. Wenzel - 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Wenzel - 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher

zoom_out_map

What is your position at Alder? What brought you here? How long have you been here?

I am the 7th Grade Social Studies teacher for the Green Team at Alder. Previously, I taught 6th grade, all subjects, and 7th Grade Literature. This is my 20th year of teaching. I am a graduate of Egg Harbor Township High School, and I love teaching in the district where I went to school.

What is or has been one of your favorite things about Alder?

A few of my favorite “things” about Alder are the staff and the students. The staff is awesome and I love how everyone helps each other. The Green Team is my second family and I am so lucky to teach with such talented teachers. I also love to see my students learn and grow I like to see all of their successes even after they leave for high school and beyond.

My favorite activities throughout the year are the ones that involve celebrating our military and first responders. I am grateful for the EHT Education Foundation Grant that allows us to grow this program. The Cool Beans Café also made my year!

What do you think will be your greatest challenge this year?

This year one of my biggest challenges was getting used to a later start time and a new schedule. I ended up really loving the rotation schedule.

Where did you go to school? What degree did you earn?

I went to Atlantic Community College, (now ACCC) and Stockton College (now Stockton University). I earned a BA in Political Science/Education.

Any fun facts you would like to share about yourself?

I have lived in Egg Harbor Township for most of my life, however, I completed my Student Teaching at a Chicago Public High School, and before teaching I worked as a subcontractor for the FAA. Super Fun Fact: In 2019, I had the honor and privilege of Flying with the Thunderbirds!! Best Day EVER! You can view the video and read about it here.
