Rosie Tejada attended Jefferson and Oceana High Schools' Back to School Nights and enjoyed visiting with members from our campus communities.

Andrew Lie also attended this past week's Jefferson and Oceana High Schools' Back to School Nights and appreciated student leaders helping families navigate their way around the campuses.

Kalimah Salahuddin is thrilled for this year's Student Advisory Council and their fresh ideas that will greatly add to positive things taking place in the District.

Carla Ng-Garrett welcomed Student Trustee Fletcher Edwards, a senior from Terra Nova High, to the Board, and is looking forward working with all of the student trustees this semester.

Nick Occhipinti encouraged the importance of voting, along with our students using their voice to exercise their rights as members of this community and society.

Superintendent Toni Presta shared how nice it was to attend Back to School Night presentations at Jefferson and Oceana High Schools this past week and visiting with our Grizzly and Shark families!

She spoke about Jefferson High School's Unity Days program that kicked off this past Monday with grade 11 students working with school leaders and members from Camp LEAD. (Check out this Friday's Superintendent Community Update for more information on this amazing program.)

Finally, Superintendent Presta shared that she attended the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the mural at 6399 Mission Street, Daly City, which was painted by Jefferson High School’s GrizzArt Club. Members from the City Council of Daly City, along with JUHSD leaders and staff, were present to celebrate with the students and the Daly City community. Ms. Presta encouraged all to swing by Daly City's Mitsubishi Motors and have a look at this gorgeous student-created project!

Monica Casey, AFT Local 1481 President, attended this meeting with the following notes to share:

*JUHSD's Special Education Department are piloting a labor management council with members from both the District's certificated and classified staff on October 4.

*She encouraged everyone to take advance of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program for student loans with its deadline taking place on October 31.

*Negotiations will restarting near the end of October to review revised budgets and more.

*She was pleased to share that Union membership is above 95% for the District's comprised of both certificated and classified employees.

Though not officially sworn in by the Board of Trustees just yet, Student Trustee Fletcher Edwards from Terra Nova High School attended this evening's meeting with a few announcements to share. He noted that the school recently held their annual Club Fair and that their fall homecoming theme was announced during that time. Throughout the year, Student Advisory Council members and trustees share campus updates with the JUHSD School Board and community.

The next regularly scheduled Board Meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 18. Public session begins at 7:00 pm (unless otherwise noted) on the JUHSD YouTube channel and in person at the District Office.
