Policy Highlight
JH: Attendance, Absenteeism, and Truancy
Statement of Purpose: The Board requires that school-aged children enrolled in the District attend
school in accordance with all applicable state laws and Board policies. The educational program offered by the District is predicated upon the presence of the student and requires continuity of instruction and classroom participation in order for students to achieve academic standards and consistent educational progress. Parents/guardians, students, school administrators, and teachers all have important roles in ensuring that students attend school and are on time for class and scheduled activities.
See the entire policy and absence request form below.
A message from our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Buckley:
STAR Testing begins Monday, September 15th.
New Hampshire law requires public and chartered schools to screen students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade for potential indicators of dyslexia and related disorders, using evidence-based screeners, within the first 60 days of school entry and monitor progress.
Students identified with potential risk factors must receive age-appropriate, evidence-based intervention strategies. Caregivers are to be notified of screening results and the interventions provided.
GVS uses STAR Early Literacy and STAR Reading as our assessment tool. Testing in grades K - 5 will begin Monday, September 15th, Results will be shared with families shortly after testing is completed..
A message from our School Nurse, Mrs. Carey:
The Lion’s Club will be back again this year for a school wide vision screening. The dates are September 30th and October 2nd. More information to follow!
Don’t forget! SNAP requires annual sign ups for over the counter medications. Permissions end the last day of the previous school year. Please don’t forget to update permissions!
Have a great weekend!
A message from our School Counselor, Mrs. Widmann:
It's that time of year again! GVS is ready to get our outdoors on with the annual Unity Day Hike at Camp Coniston, which is set for Friday, September 19th (with a rain date of September 26th).
Please have your child wear hiking-appropriate shoes, bring a jacket or sweatshirt in case it gets chilly, and carry a backpack with a snack, lunch, water bottle, etc. Make sure they show up ready for the elements, including sun screen and bug spray.
If your student misplaced their permission form, fear not! It is attached below! We welcome parents who would like to chaperone, as well!

Missing?
Have you had a valuable or two go missing in the last year or so? Jewelry and watches, etc. head to the front office for safekeeping. We have quite a collection at this point so if your student has mentioned losing a watch, ring, bracelet or other valuable, make sure they come check in at the front desk! All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the year with other lost-and-found items.
