Message from the Superintendent

We have many ways for our parents/guardians, students, staff members, and residents to contribute to the success of our schools. Now is when most school and district committees and organizations start seeking volunteers to help lead and serve for the next school year. Think about how you might want to get involved and volunteer your time and talent for the benefit of our students.

Volunteer opportunities include serving on the district and school advisory committees. Those applications are due Friday, April. Below in this newsletter is more information on how you may apply. School parent clubs and booster organizations are always looking for helping hands, and now is the time to think about raising yours for board slates that come together in April and May.

Our district is very fortunate to have such an engaged community and we recognize our volunteers in many ways, too. We are co-hosting the Lake Oswego Rotary SASEE Awards Celebration at Lakeridge High School Auditorium next Wednesday, Mar. 15. All families are invited. Below is a link for more details. I would love to see you there as Rotary honors volunteers who have gone above and beyond in serving our schools and community. Thank you!

Celebrating Classified Appreciation Week

Our district celebrated Classified Employee Appreciation Week with notes and gifts of gratitude. Our school board kicked off the week with a resolution read at Monday's board meeting to honor a valued group of people who help run our schools. Lake Oswego School Employee Association President, Lakeridge High School Building Engineer, and everyone's favorite coach Sierra Avila was at the meeting to accept the gift on behalf of all of our classified employees. There's a reason classified staff are often referred to as the backbone of public education. Our schools and districts simply could not function without them. Thank you!

Pace-HER Recognizes Women's History Month

At Monday's school board meeting, Lakeridge student-athletes Romy Howell and Keelie O'Hollaren presented the new Pace-HER Club celebrating women's athletics. They also read the school board's proclamation for Women's History Month.

Women’s History Month is a way to honor contributions women make in society throughout history. The month focuses on the past and present impacts powerful women make. Our schools infuse instructional learning activities to incorporate the contributions of women this month, and every month.

Hands-only CPR Challenge Raises Awareness in Our Schools

Our Lake Oswego Fire Department's Hands-Only CPR challenge continued with School Board Directors John Wallin and Kirsten Aird learning the life-saving skill. The board members then challenged our high school student board representatives and student body presidents to learn it, too. Lake Oswego High School's Samantha Jarquin and Arshia Sohal and Lakeridge High School's Jacob Stuckey and Tristan Seber accepted the challenge. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. It's always the time to focus on our hearts while working to prevent, detect and treat the disease. Anyone can save a life. Community Level: Low

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) looks at the combination of three metrics — new COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 population in the past 7 days, the percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients, and total new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in the past 7 days — to determine the COVID-19 community levels. Using this data, the COVID-19 community level is classified as low, medium, or high. Clackamas County is currently in low (green).
