Week of December 2, 2024
Hello Charger Family!
I hope you all had a restful Thanksgiving Break.
It's hard to believe that it is December. In 15 days, we will be headed into Winter Break.
This time of year can be joyful, celebratory, and festive for some.
However, it can also be a challenging time for others. The stress of the season can impact us all in different ways. My hope is that we continue to show kindness, compassion, and empathy & spread peace and positivity to those around us.
Looking ahead....
- Monday, December 2nd is an EARLY DISMISSAL DAY. Students dismiss at 1:20 p.m.
- First Semester Final Exams are Thursday, December 19th and Friday, December 20th. If you need to take your Final Exams early due to extenuating circumstances, please email Liza Thomas at thomasli@u4sd.org so that she can issue you the form. DO NOT wait until the last minute to get these completed. The forms require signatures and a plan from EACH of your teachers.
- The Final Exam schedule is linked HERE. Please note, students are dismissed at 1:20 p.m. each day (12/19 and 12/20).
- SENIORS: This is your FINAL first semester of high school! A couple of reminders:
- The Graduation Order Event is THIS Tuesday, December 3rd from 3-6 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Hallway. This is NOT MANDATORY - but should be attended by students who missed the initial Senior meeting OR families who would like an opportunity to PERSONALLY order items & your Cap & Gown with Unit 4's High School Graduation source, Herff Jones.
- If you are unsure of your graduation/credit status, please make an appoint with your counselor asap!
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email at sandersa@u4sd.org or by phone at 217-351-3951 should you have any concerns, questions, or comments!
Here's to a #FULLYCHARGED and short week ahead!!

‼️Need to Take Finals Early?
Final Exams will be held on Thursday, December 19th and Friday, December 20th. Students will be dismissed after their last final or at 1:20 p.m.
In the event that an absence during Finals cannot be avoided, the following procedure should be followed:
Parent/guardian emails or calls Associate Principal, Liza Thomas (thomasli@u4sd.org) to explain the need for the absence along with the date(s) of the absence.
Request a form in the Attendance Office before the intended absence date (or print THIS REQUEST FORM).
Associate Principal will email all teachers with dates of the absence and approval to get teacher signatures to make arrangements for missed work and/or exams.
Student will need to get signatures from each teacher involved in the absence and make arrangements for homework to be submitted and/or tests to be taken before or after the absence.
Turn completed form into Associate Principal’s Office or Attendance Office.
More information about the Final Exam Schedule is HERE.
💥IMPORTANT - Student Absences:
If students will be TARDY or ABSENT for ANY reason, Guardians - PLEASE call your student in to provide a reason!
When there is no notification from a parent/guardian, absences remain as UNEXCUSED, which can affect your student's GRADES and additional work time completion!!

Charger Artists Fire It Up! 🔥
Charger Artists used the Raku method to make pottery last week!
Raku is a low-firing process inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. It uses all of nature's elements to create: earth, fire, water, and air.
Our Art team braved the wind and cold air to create beautiful pieces (and then used the fire for a fun treat at the end!)
Fun Fact: The name "raku" literally translates as 'happiness in the accident'.

Several of our Chargers attended the Male Symposium at the I-Hotel last week. Powerful words, powerful people, powerful experience!

College/Career Resources:
- The College/Career Readiness Website from Unit 4. This link will take you to a multitude of resources, materials, and provide support to you as you "walk" your student through their post-secondary futures.
- Our Unit 4 PACE Framework. This is a "checklist" of sorts - things you can expect your student to have completed during each of their High School grades (9th-12th). Pic of the framework is below
- SchooLinks. By now, each family should have received an email from Unit 4 regarding how to access your student's SchooLinks platform. This online tool helps our Chargers create a post-secondary plan (college, career, workforce, military, etc.) Our Freshman and Sophomores engage in this platform during their daily Advisory classes. Our Juniors and Seniors engage in this throughout their school day/year in multiple spaces.
