September is Attendance Month! September is Attendance Month!

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

Regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. Every day students are in class, they have valuable opportunities to learn, connect with their teachers and peers, and stay on track academically.

To encourage strong attendance habits, we will be celebrating students who consistently attend school and arrive on time throughout September and into October. Students who have no more than one absence and fewer than five tardies between September 8 and October 14 will earn an invitation to our Tailgate Attendance Party on October 16. We will also be celebrating Attendance Spirit Week, September 14-18, with special dress-up days and an Advisory competition.

Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance a priority. Together, we can help students develop good habits that lead to success in school and beyond!

Health Screenings

Students enrolled in Omaha Public Schools are provided free health screening in accordance with Nebraska State Statute. Screenings are conducted throughout the school year and may begin as early as August. Students in early childhood, kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, seventh, and tenth grades are screened for hearing, vision, dental, height, and weight per the rules and regulations set forth by the state of Nebraska. The screening is conducted to help identify health concerns in as early a stage as possible, in an effort to enhance learning. Screening is not intended to be diagnostic, but to identify students with potential problems. Findings that need further evaluation by a health care provider will be sent home. Per Nebraska State Regulations, a parent/guardian may supersede the mandated school health screening by submitting a statement signed by an authorized health care provider attesting that the required screening has been completed in the previous six months. An updated healthcare provider statement must be submitted each school year. Contact your school nurse for any questions regarding screening.

Arts Therapy Arts Therapy

Art is a great way for students to express themselves in a non-verbal way. Every piece can tell a story of joy, sadness, anger and more. If your student struggles to share their thoughts and feelings, expressive arts is a great option for youth to work through their feelings than in a non-traditional talk model. Starting in September, the NexT Foundation is offering a few free therapy groups. The groups are below:

-Great Kids Expressive Art Therapy (Ages 8-12): Meets on Saturdays from 11:30am-12:45PM

-Expressive Arts for Teens (Ages 13-18): Saturdays from 2:00pm-3:30pm

Family Needs Checklist Family Needs Checklist

Beveridge Middle School is fortunate to have a full-time School Social Worker Ms. Kujath available to support students and families with a variety of needs and concerns.

We invite you to take a few minutes to complete our Family Needs Checklist using the link below. This brief, self-disclosure needs assessment helps us better understand areas where your family may benefit from additional support or community resources. Responses are only available to view by the School Social Worker.

After the checklist is submitted, the School Social Worker will reach out to your family within five school days to discuss your needs, explore available resources, and work together to identify possible solutions or next steps.

Please know that completing the checklist does not obligate you to accept any services or referrals. It simply provides an opportunity to let us know how we can support your family.

Sports Desk Sports Desk

Hello Bulldog Nation! Let's re-cap the first hot week of September. It's almost time to start playing games, so here is the info to keep you in the loop. If you haven't already done so, please create your profile on BOUND. The instructions were sent last weekend in the Smore. This is where you can access schedules and all kinds of important information. Once you have created your account, please FOLLOW the respective sport your child is involved with.

Football

Our coaches have been very careful with taking precautions with the extreme heat. The last thing we want is for one of our players to drop from heat exhaustion. Pads and helmets have been issued. Our team plays their first game of the season AT Buffett on September 16th.

X-Country

Our Bulldogs runners have been very active preparing for their first meet at Northwest High School on Wednesday September 9th. A lot of the conditioning has been happening in the air-conditioned hallways after school. Coach Snelling and Coach Perrin are liking what they are seeing from this team so far.

Volleyball

The volleyball team made their final cuts and plays their first game of the season on Friday September 4th AT Bluestem Middle. Stay tuned next week for updates.

I will continue to feed you all the updates regarding Bulldogs sports. Looking forward to an exciting season of amazing athletics. Enjoy your Labor Day!
