PIC Parent UpdateAugust 29, 2025

Message from Principal Tekiela Message from Principal Tekiela

Hello,

It has been a joy to welcome all our PIC students and families over the past couple of weeks. Everyone—students, teachers, and families—are settling into our back-to-school routines. I am incredibly proud of your children as they strive to become PIC ROK Stars!

Safety remains my top priority at PIC. This week, we conducted several important safety drills, including Fire, Bus Evacuation, Severe Weather, and Intruder drills. I also took the opportunity to meet with each class for a safety walk to ensure that all students are familiar with the exits in our building in case of an emergency. Your children asked insightful safety questions throughout the week, and we will continue to emphasize safety practices throughout the year.

Please take a moment to review the entire newsletter, as it contains important information about upcoming events. You can expect to receive a PIC Parent Newsletter every other week, with the next edition scheduled for September 12th.

Wishing you a wonderful long weekend!

All PIC students will participate in the Fall NWEA MAP Benchmark test. This year, we are pleased to inform you that the results will be sent home before report card day, as we have done in previous years. You can expect to receive the reports on September 12th. Thank you for your continued support! For more information about this assessment, please see the Family Guide for NWEA MAP button below.

We encourage families to ensure that their students arrive at school on time every day. We recognize that there are valid reasons for students to miss school occasionally. To help keep everyone informed, we send attendance reminder letters at 7, 10, and 14 absences. Additionally, we collaborate with Will County Truancy Officers to provide extra support services for families in need. The attendance team at PIC is dedicated to partnering with families for their success. Please feel free to reach out to our office or Principal Tekiela with any questions or concerns.

Keeping our Kids Cyber Safe Keeping our Kids Cyber Safe

Last year, we had the honor of welcoming Detective Rich Wistoski, a nationally acclaimed speaker on Cyber Security for students. His engaging presentation at PHS was recorded and is now accessible on our PIC website, as well as below. If your student has access to a phone or the internet, this informative and eye-opening presentation is a must-watch. I will strive to provide tips and safety information throughout the year. Many students at this age are new to having a phone, so it’s crucial to establish some guidelines. Generally, phones should be kept out of bedrooms at night and charged in a different location. It's important to take the time to review the phone, including reading text messages and checking apps.
