BHS Art Newsletter

The fabulous, talented students of the Barnstable High School Art department are back at it, flexing their creative muscles and making some truly inspiring art! We are so excited to start sharing their work with you! We have so many fun and exciting projects coming up that we are psyched to share with you all! Here's just a taste of what some of the AP Studio Art kids are up to!

A number of our breathtakingly spectacular alumni shared what they are up to out there in the wide, wide world! Could we get a better community of creative makers? No we could not.

"I am super grateful for my time in the BHS arts department, you guys have taught me so many of my skills that I now utilize in my major. Art class was my favorite part of the day, and a wonderful creative outlet for me. I am super lucky to now be in a field that incorporates both my love for engineering and creativity, as well as having a direct impact on my community.

I would like to thank the BHS Art Staff for being so passionate about what they do, and investing in me as a student to help me succeed. The arts are a crucial (and sometimes overlooked) part of our lives, affecting us in ways that we don't even realize. Nick spent the summer at MIT, participating in a special program for incoming first-years. There, he took classes and also worked on a project at one of the many maker-spaces on campus. He worked on recreating the TARS robot from the movie Interstellar. It was a super fun process that involved laser cutting, CAD/3D printing, electronics, and design. Nick is looking forward to a Design Studio course he'll take during the winter period and also is looking to join Borderline, a student organization that manages (and continually adds on to) the wall of murals that stretches along the MIT tunnels. Lilleigh has been painting up a storm (check out her gorgeous portrait bellow!) and enjoying all of the energy and fun opportunities that living Boston provides! As much as she loves painting, she loves helping kids more. So, she decided to go into art education and also take some psychology classes working towards becoming a art therapist! Go Lilleigh!

Daniel has been hard at work with his classes at CCCC, which he is enjoying, and hanging out with friends, who all apparently dress exactly the same.

Maddy has been super busy with getting adjusted to college! Since graduating, she has been exploring several clubs on campus such as art club, pottery club, and book club. Recently, she just finished crocheting a sweet, sweet sweater using a Tunisian stitch and alpaca yarn! So cozy!

Seniors are having a Ball starting construction on their Senior Lines!

Ms. Fay Smith's students created Personal Polaroids that illustrated their Past, Present and Futures! So Cool!

Mr. Miguel's Studio Arts students created a Graffiti tagged name train for their first project!

Ms. Amara's Graphic Design Students explored fonts and typography to create reflective quotes!

Ms. Mueller's 8th Grade Art Classes showed off their first Mixed Media Projects!

Ms. Hurter's Cartooning & Animation Students crafted striking black and white 6 panel comics! Crazy Fun!

The inimitable Ted Skirvan has a wonderful show up at Barnstable Town Hall! The show demonstrates his wide artistic range and inspirations, from Cape Cod Seascapes to Music luminaries! Check it out and give him a follow on the insta @ beachpointdesigns!
