Nikau - Youeii
Rimu Tōtara – Suryansh
Thank you!
A huge Ngā Mihi to Martin Langdon for arranging an awesome trip to Te Papa for Rimu Tōtara, linking with our science and local curriculum focus. We had a wonderful day exploring and making connections. Thanks also to all of the parent helpers who accompanied us on the day - we appreciate you all!
Introducing Hero
Next term, we are introducing Hero as our new secure online platform for learning, reporting, communication, and school administration.
Designed by educators, Hero is trusted by schools across New Zealand for its ease of use and robust security, including holding the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) badge.
Bellevue School will introduce Hero in two phases. Phase one will be in Term 4, 2026, and Stage 2 will be Term 1, 2027.
PHASE ONE (Beginning of Term 4, 2026)
Hero will be available from Monday 5th October for you to download. Please do not try and sign in before this. You will receive an email on this date with more information and instructions on how to sign in. During phase 1 Hero will be used only for reporting absences. (Reporting, student billing and school bookings will be part of stage 2, so you won’t see these options during next term.)
PHASE TWO (Term 1, 2027) More information will come out before the beginning of next year for the second phase, which includes reporting, student billing and school bookings.
School Organisation for 2027
Term 4 is always busy! At this time of year we begin looking at the number of students we anticipate in each year level to make decisions about class organisation and placement for the following year.
At Bellevue, providing the best environment for learning is at the forefront of our decisions. The number of classes we start the year with is dependent on the staffing entitlement received from the Ministry of Education. This is based on the number of students in the school.
Our teachers are capable of teaching at all levels of the school and so we can allocate teachers to classes no matter the structure of the school or where they were teaching the previous year.
When looking at class composition, we aim to meet each child's needs regardless of the whānau class or mix of year groups. Our team of skilled educators takes the following factors into account when considering class placement for students:
Individual needs and achievement
Peer relationships
Learning groups and friendship groups
Age and year group
Gender balance and number of students
Siblings in other classes and year groups
Students are asked for the people they work/play well with. We are committed to making the most appropriate placement, considering all the information.
If there are any factors we may not be aware of that you believe are important for us to take into account please contact the school over the coming month - by Friday 16 October (end of the first week of Term 4) at the latest. There will be another reminder in the last newsletter before the term break.
You can talk with your child's teacher or a member of the leadership team or email us at:
Anne Smith (Deputy Principal Year 0-3) annes@bellevue-newlands.school.nz
Cassie Woodhouse (Hub Coach Year 4/5) cassie@bellevue-newlands.school.nz
Megan Walters (Hub Coach Year 3) megan@bellevue-newlands.school.nz
Deeann Daniels (Deputy Principal Year 4-6) deeann@bellevue-newlands.school.nz
Rachel Johnston (Principal) principal@bellevue-newlands.school.nz
Once again, please make sure that you have contacted us before 10 October so we can take this into consideration when planning classes early next term.

Bellevue School 2026 Production – A Night at the Movies
The big day is almost here! We can't wait to share A Night at the Movies with our Bellevue community tomorrow evening at Newlands College.
A reminder that the whole school will be offsite tomorrow for our dress rehearsal at Newlands College from 9:30am–2:30pm. Please ensure your child arrives at school before 9am so they can travel with their class after morning Hui.
For the evening performance, all students should arrive at the Newlands College School Hall by 5:40pm, already dressed in their costume with hair and makeup (if necessary) complete, ready for final preparations before the show.
There is no available parking within the school grounds. Please park on the street and avoid the yellow lines.
The production will run for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. At the conclusion of the performance, we will bring the students out by hub, starting with Mānuka. You must collect your child from inside the hall before leaving, students will not be able to walk to cars.
Thank you for your support throughout this exciting journey. We look forward to seeing you all there for a fantastic evening celebrating the creativity and talent of our students!
‘Watch what you watch’ online - Hector’s World Episode 2: A Balancing Act
