Good Afternoon Jaguar Nation,
Your child’s safety is our top priority, and we ask for your partnership in reinforcing important safety practices when traveling to and from school. Whether students are walking, riding a bike, or using a scooter, it’s essential that they follow these guidelines:
Reminders for Your Student
- Assume drivers don’t see you. Encourage your child to stay alert, avoid distractions, and make eye contact with drivers before crossing any street.
- Wear a helmet. Texas law requires all riders 17 and under to wear helmets when biking or using scooters.
- Use crosswalks and follow crossing guards’ instructions.
- Stay visible. Students should wear bright clothing or reflective strips and use lights or reflectors in the early morning or evening.
- No distractions while traveling. Phones should stay in backpacks, and headphones or earbuds are not allowed when riding bikes or scooters.
Reminders for Drivers in School Zones
As a community, we all play a role in keeping our school zone safe. Please help by:
- Avoiding distractions. Refrain from using cell phones or engaging in other distractions while driving in the school zone.
- Following the speed limit. Slow down and stay vigilant, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.
- Watching for students. Be aware of pedestrians, cyclists, and crossing guards at all times.
- Yielding to crossing students. Ensure full stops at crosswalks and give students plenty of space to cross safely.
By working together and reminding our children of these safety measures, we can ensure everyone travels safely to and from school. Thank you for helping to keep our school zone safe!
