From Amazon:

"April Fools, Mended by Love and Luck is a candid, emotionally rich memoir that explores the complexities of growing up as an adoptee—even under the most loving circumstances. Told with a blend of honesty, humor, and warmth, the story invites readers into the author’s deeply personal journey of identity, belonging, and self-discovery.

Through heartfelt reflections and touching anecdotes, the book sheds light on the often-overlooked emotional layers of adoption. It illustrates how even a “best-case scenario” can carry profound challenges, shaping the way one sees themselves and the world. Woven throughout is an affectionate undertone that softens difficult truths, using wit and nostalgia to guide readers through bittersweet memories.

As the narrative unfolds, the author discovers her biological roots—an experience that brings unexpected clarity and emotional resolution. This moment of connection serves as a full-circle moment, offering insight, closure, and a deeper appreciation of the messy, magical intersections of love, luck, and identity."

Ryan shares:

"In 2025 I've mainly been working as a Music Producer out of Ghost Hit Recording in Springfield MA- a recording studio built in a historic New England church. [www.ghosthitrecording.com]

One of the projects I worked on this year was the sophomore album of the alt rock band, Pretty Killer, out of Worcester. I got to work with Alan Day of Four Year Strong and Matt Marcel of Overcast on the record and it's coming out killer!

I also partnered with Happy Cable Company in California as a sponsored artist, and worked with other bands in the area such as the upcoming pop-rock band, Hazel Bloom, with my fellow alumni Dave Carlin, and the death metal band, Thespian, with another alumni, Devin LaPlaca (both class of 2012 graduates).

SHRHS gave me a perfect foundation to build a career in music and I'm always grateful for the opportunities I've been given. Hope everyone has a great rest of the year! Go Rams!"

2016 Alum, Christopher Kracjik, Returns to the DCRSD! 2016 Alum, Christopher Kracjik, Returns to the DCRSD!

Chris shares:

"After graduating from Shepherd Hill in 2016, I earned my B.A. in Psychology from the University of Hartford and began working in healthcare administration, spending several years in regional hospitals, including the emergency room and intensive care units. Those experiences, especially during the pandemic, were deeply formative. Alongside that work, I continued to grow my passion for painting and creative projects, which provided balance and perspective. In 2023, I made the decision to shift careers into education, first with Oxford Public Schools and then returning home to DCRSD in March 2025, where I now work in Special Education/TLC. It has been meaningful to come full circle and give back to the community that raised me, both through my work with students and my ongoing creative pursuits."

Recent 2025 graduate Maggie Montville debuted her first novel, The Sideshow, this summer! She has been doing local readings/book signings and is currently working on her second novel while she attends Worcester State University.

From Amazon:

"Annabel Halston is a dreamer yearning to escape the monotony of her small-town life. When a traveling circus arrives in her town, dazzling audiences with its otherworldly performances, Annie seizes the opportunity to leave everything behind and the join the show.

The circus is a strange place full of misfits, mystifying human wonders, and fellow runaways, but Annie finds herself connecting with the lost souls that were shepherded into the circus and given a home. Their savior, Benjamin Thompson, the whimsical owner of the thrilling Thompson Family Circus, is a man who will do anything to keep his unusual employees safe and protected from both insolent circus-goers and greedy members of the press.

A night of wonder is transformed into terror when Annie’s classmate is found murdered in the Big Top, coincidentally, the day after Annie spontaneously joins the circus. Tensions rise as restless performers, bound by unbreakable contracts, see the tragedy as a chance to escape. Meanwhile, the circus thrives, offering a world of fantasy to those desperate to escape reality. However, Annie finds it difficult to fully absorb herself in the wondrous magic of the circus, and soon finds herself searching for justice in ways she never even imagined.

Fully invested in a plot to solve the murder, Annie finds herself racing against the clock as the killer continues their bloody massacre across the circus. In a world full of people who are desperate to escape their pasts, it proves nearly impossible to investigate. The people at the circus are mysterious, cunning, manipulative, and unwilling to let go of the illusion they’ve created. But as paranoia sets in and masks begin to slip, Annie realizes that the greatest threat isn’t the killer lurking in the shadows—it’s the madness lurking within."

You can purchase Maggie's novel here and at local bookstores around the area. Congratulations, Maggie!
