Reading
In the month of May, we will working on module 8 and will be starting our last module. For module nine our class will build their knowledge about protecting the planet, with a focus on the persuasive text genre. We will read texts and view videos about what people can do to take care of our planet.
Writing
In writing, our class will continue to write responses with relevant details that demonstrate understanding of texts in short and long constructed responses including comparing and contrasting ideas across a variety of sources-Module 8. In grammar, we will continue to edit and revise our writings. We will apply contractions, end of Sentence Punctuation, and Commas with Direct Speech and Names grammar lessons in our writing.
Math
In the month of May, fourth graders will be reviewing and elaborating on mathematical concepts that will better prepare them for fifth grade. After the STAAR test in April, students began a project in which they will design a Taco Truck. This project will incorporate working with decimals, personal finance literacy, multiplication, and division concepts. Students will showcase their creativity and math skills by creating a menu for a Taco Truck. Once they create their menu, students will present their taco truck to their classmates and write about how they can earn a profit with their taco creations.
Science
In science, we will complete Chapter 10, in which students identify and describe past environments based on fossil evidence, including common Texas fossils. We will complete the school year by participating in STEM connections. Students will apply the Engineering Design process and will complete their design through Project Based Learning. Students will work in teams to solve real-world engineering challenges. Together, they will design and create a customized sundial that accurately measures time and represents the spirit
and identity of Rees.
Social Studies
In Social Studies we will read about life in Texas today. We will learn about urbanization and how we work to protect our resources for the future. Also, how jobs nowadays require more training and education. To highlight the lesson about Texas Cultural Expression from April, we will have a cultural exchange project. In order to prepare for our Social Studies Interim, we will review chapters 8-10. Finally, we will complete our last unit for the school year, Texas Government. We will study the responsibilities of each branch of the state government of Texas. We will also understand the significance of citizen participation in Texas government.
