The completion of our playground revitalization project is a wonderful testament to true community partnership! This essential improvement—addressing the long-standing issue of wet conditions and erosion that made half of the playground unusable—began with a foundational idea sparked by the DSA's generous purchase of the Funnel Ball. This initial step catalyzed the focused effort needed to spruce up the area. We owe deep gratitude to our Kindergarten teachers, whose detailed feedback underscored the urgent need for a change. The project was made possible by the crucial support from the Town Meeting, which approved the plan to install a turf section, and the indispensable guidance of the Conservation Department, ensuring compliance and smooth navigation of environmental requirements. The Facilities Department, especially the grounds crew, deserves special thanks for initiating the project and adding the critical finishing touches. Finally, we celebrate the outstanding partnership with the Durkin Company. Their management and work teams went above and beyond, demonstrating exceptional commitment to Billerica by moving our project forward immediately upon a cancellation, ensuring the new turf section was complete and ready for our students before winter arrived. This project is a shining example of what we can achieve together!

Families can share food, music, art, and customs from their heritage — and enjoy discovering the diverse backgrounds of their friends and neighbors. It’s a night of connection, curiosity, and pride as we celebrate what makes Ditson wonderfully unique!
