Principal's Update

Dear Parkview Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful three-day weekend! We have another great, and busy, short week ahead at Parkview.

Congratulations to Mrs. Lamb’s and Mr. Barry’s classes for being our top two fundraising classes! They celebrated their accomplishment on Friday with a Kona Ice party. It was the perfect hot day to enjoy a cool treat. Our PTO Events Crew is also busy assembling the individual prizes earned by students who reached specific fundraising levels. Those prizes will be passed out soon.

Because we reached our schoolwide fundraising goal, we will also be celebrating with a silent disco at Club Parkview on November 6. We can’t wait to see everyone boogie and celebrate at our glow party!

Last week, we practiced a safety Hold drill. Our students did a wonderful job following directions and remaining calm. Drills give our teachers and staff an opportunity to test our systems, identify any issues, and ensure we are prepared in the event of an actual emergency. Please remember that while we are in drill mode, we will not answer the gates or phone system. During an actual emergency, family communication will be sent through ParentSquare and coordinated through our site and District DIRT teams. This allows staff members on campus to remain focused on student and staff safety.

This week, our fourth graders will visit Shasta Caverns, and Mrs. Akimoto’s fifth-grade class will head to the Ecological Preserve. We will also have popsicles available for PAW Bucks during lunch on Friday!

Finally, please be on the lookout for a SignUpGenius as we prepare for our Fall Festival on October 23 from 5:00–7:00 PM. We will need volunteers to help with setup and cleanup, Flames of Fall, and harvest activities. Our fifth-grade families will also be selling pie and cider to raise money for camp.

Here’s to another Parktastic short week ahead!

Big Idea of the Month: Self-Control

We all have moments when we want to do one thing, but we know we should do something else. Maybe it’s waiting our turn, stopping a game when it’s time to clean up, or taking a breath instead of saying something we might regret. These everyday moments are chances to practice self-control: choosing to do what’s best, even when you don’t want to.

Self-control is not about never getting upset or making mistakes. It’s about learning to pause, notice how we’re feeling, and make a choice that helps us—and the people around us. Children develop this skill over time, and everyday situations at home provide lots of opportunities to practice.

Try asking your child:

When is it hardest for you to use self-control?
What helps you stop and think before you react?
Can you think of a time when you made a good choice even though it was hard?

Try sharing with your child:

A time when it was hard for you to use self-control.
Something you do to help yourself calm down or make a good choice.
A time when you were proud of yourself for handling a difficult situation well.

Remember, self-control is a skill—not something we’re simply born knowing how to do. Every time children pause, take a breath, and make a thoughtful choice, they’re practicing and getting a little better!

Enrollment Required Documents And Immunizations

The following are required to register your child:

Proof of date of birth (birth certificate, birth record, passport, baptismal certificate, affidavit of the parent, guardian or custodian of the minor or other legal proof),
Two forms verifying proof of residency, and
Written immunization record from a physician, nurse, or health department.

Children must be immunized for MMR - measles, mumps and rubella (German measles), polio, DTaP - diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough), Hepatitis B, and Varicella (chicken pox) prior to school entry. State law requires students beginning Kindergarten have all required immunizations. Students missing immunizations will not be able to start school until we received these records.

Breakfast and Before School Care

Our MPR is open at 6:45 for students who need before school care. Students do not need to register in advance. Breakfast is served starting at 7:45 and ends at 8:15. Gates open at 8:05 for students to head to classrooms, put their backpacks down, and then walk to the playground. Any parent wishing to assist their child with breakfast or sit with them while they eat, will need to check in the office and go to the wellness center, which opens at 7:45 AM. To respect student privacy and safety we ask that parents do not stay with their child in the MPR or on the playground..
