Dear Parents,

As Fall sets in, please be reminded to dress your children appropriately. Sweatshirts or light jackets may be needed early in the morning for the bus stop and on chilly afternoons for recess.

Please be aware that we have 1 day this month where children will not have school. On October 9th, Berkeley County Schools will be having their first Professional Learning/ Faculty Senate Day. Again, there will be no school for students on that day. Additionally, we will have a 2-hour early dismissal on Friday, October 6th for faculty senate and a 2- hour delay on Thursday, October 19th for a teacher prep day.

Picture day will take place for students on the 13th of this month. All students, Pre-K thru 2nd grade will have their individual picture taken on this day.

The 1st 9 weeks will end on October 17th and report cards will come home on October 24th. Remember that, as of last year, Berkeley County Schools no longer has an A-F grading system for Kindergarten thru 2nd grade. Students will be assessed on their knowledge of the content standards. Students will receive the following:

E= Emerging-Beginning to Understand

A= Advancing-Moving towards proficiency

P= Proficient-Meets or exceeds grade level expectations

NP=Not Proficient-Not making progress towards standard

In community news, on Friday, October 13th, our awesome PTO will be hosting our annual Outside Movie Night at Tuscarora. The movie begins at 7:00 PM and movie goers can begin arriving at 6:30 PM. The movie is Monster House and the cost to attend is just $3.00. Further information will be coming out to you in the coming weeks. I would encourage everyone to sign up for PTO. The cost is only $4.00 for the year.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the families and students at Tuscarora who participated in OLWEUS Kick-Off Week September 18th-22nd.

Every year it is required that you update your child's emergency card. It is important that we have current phone numbers to reach you in the event of illness, accident, academic, or various other reasons. If contacts and/or phone numbers change throughout the school year, you may make changes as needed. Please use the attached link to access the 23-24 Emergency Card. You can also access this via our school webpage under the Parents & Students tab.

PLEASE BE ADVISED, YOUR STUDENT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE ANY FORM OF TECHNOLOGY AT SCHOOL UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE EMERGENCY CARD.

Just a reminder that as a school, breakfast and lunch are always FREE at Tuscarora. Your student can eat both meals every day at no cost to you. If your students wishes to purchase an extra milk or needs a milk to go along with their packed lunch, the cost is 25 cents. We strive to provide nutritious meals to students. We ask that as you pack a lunch you also provide wholesome foods that will help give your student the energy needed to be academically successful.

This year Picture Plus & O'Roke Photography will be having picture day at out school on October 13th. This will be our fall picture. All students will be photographed for school records and yearbook. Please dress appropriately. A proof will be sent home within one week of Picture Day.

Scholastic book fair is coming to Tuscarora during the week of Nov 6rd to Nov 9th. Students will have an opportunity to preview the fair on Nov 3rd. They will then be able to shop during their library specials. Parents will be able to shop with students on Thursday, November 9th, during Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Help us kick-off Scholastic Book Fair week by dressing as your favorite book character on Tuesday, October 31st!!!

Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign which encourages a drug free life. The Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. Please join us in the following dress up theme days as we celebrate this important week.

10/23 - Monday Wear Red Day - Tuscarora students pledge to be drug free

10/24 - Tuesday We "treasure" a drug free life - Wear jewels on your arms, fingers, and/or necks.

10/25 - Wednesday Twin Day - Twins don't let twins do drugs or bully others.

10/26 - Thursday Throwback Thursday - Dress in your best from another decade of your choice

10/27 - Friday Check Yourself - Wear checkered plaid

$3.00 Cash per person which includes: Popcorn, juice box and a small candy bag.

A parent must accompany the student.

Bring a blanket to sit on.

Please make sure you send the money to school to sign up for this event.

Tuscarora's annual Joe Corbi's & Claire's Gourmet fundraiser will be held Oct 10th through Oct 24th. Delivery date is November 30th. Exact time of pick up will be announced later. For details, please refer to the paperwork that will come home with students in the beginning of October.

We will continue to sell Hershey's Ice Cream every Friday for $1. Please remember to send your student with their money in the morning.

Smencils are sold every Tuesday & Thursday morning in the front hall way. Cost is $1 each.
