A Message Shared with Students this Week A Message Shared with Students this Week

Dear Families,

This week, our nation paused to remember the lives lost on September 11. Like many, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard about the events that unfolded that day. Superintendent Haas shared a thoughtful message with you all about this day that changed so much in our world.

At Green Meadow, I wanted to share a message with our students that was meaningful and age-appropriate. While our children are too young to understand the full significance of September 11, they are not too young to take away the spirit of the people who showed up to help in the days, weeks, and months that followed.

Here is the message I shared with them:

“Today is September 11. Many years ago, something very sad happened on this day. Grown-ups may remember it, and sometimes they feel sad when they think about it.

But what we want you to remember most is that whenever something scary happens in the world, there are always helpers. On that day, firefighters, police officers, doctors, nurses, and neighbors all worked hard to keep people safe and to help those who needed it.

We can honor this day by thinking about how we can be helpers too. Being a helper doesn’t mean you have to do something big. Helpers can be kind to friends, share toys, invite someone to play, listen, or say kind words when someone is sad.

So today, we remember the helpers from September 11, and we practice being helpers in our school and in our community.”

This approach allows our students to connect with the day in a way that emphasizes kindness, community, and care for others—values that are at the heart of Green Meadow.

Warmly,

Karen Lindquist

Playground Update Playground Update

If you come to Green Meadow this weekend you will notice some yellow caution tape around part of the playground. We are currently working with the company who installed the playground equipment to ensure that all of the structures have had a second inspection. We anticipated that this inspection would be complete but the work needs to continue Monday morning with representatives from the construction company who is building the new school. We are not concerned about the safety of the equipment. This is a process that needs to be completed for insurance purposes. In the meantime, the structures that need to be inspected have been identified with the yellow caution tape. Thank you for your patience as we wrap up this process!

Struggling to get out the door in the morning? You’re not alone! Creating school mornings without the stress sets all of us up for a better day. It begins with changing your mindset away from “hurry up, we’re going to be late” toward working together where everyone has responsibilities during the morning routine. With practice, it is possible to have a stress free morning, be prepared for the day ahead and still have everyone where they need to be on time. These 8 tips for getting out the door and being on time for school can help you achieve the seemingly impossible! Questions or feedback? Please contact Julie Danforth at jdanforth@maynard.k12.ma.us.

We are Hiring! We are Hiring!

We are hiring Special Education Paraprofessionals to work with our educational team. In this role, applicants may support one to four students across school settings with academic skills, social skills, transitions, and school access. Special Education Paraprofessionals are part of a team of educators that include general education teachers, special education teachers, service providers, and other paraprofessionals. This is a great full-time opportunity for anyone in a graduate program looking to gain experience before moving into an educational role after graduation.

The Maynard Public Schools anticipates hiring Daily Substitutes for the 2025-2026 school year. This role provides flexibility. Daily Substitutes can determine which days, which grade-levels, and which of the three schools they would like to work in. For more information, please email Kate Murray, kmurray@maynard.k12.ma.us, or Colleen Andrade, candrade@maynard.k12.ma.us.

The Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley, Maynard Police Department, and the Maynard Public Schools are participating in the Stuff a Cruiser event to benefit the Maynard Food Pantry.

On Saturday, September 13th, students from both the MHS National Honor Society and Fowler School National Junior Honor Society in conjunction with the Maynard Police, the Maynard Food Pantry, Market Basket of Maynard and the Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley will be participating in Stuff a Cruiser at Market Basket in Maynard from 10am - 1pm.

Stuff a Cruiser is a friendly competition between the surrounding towns of Hudson, Stow, Lancaster, Bolton, Concord and Clinton to see who can collect the most food and/or money for their local food banks. The town with the greatest total weight collected earns bragging rights for the year. Last year Maynard collected over 3,700 pounds of donations (over 2,100 pounds of food and $800 in cash) and missed out on winning by just 14 pounds.

Beginning Wednesday, September 3rd until Friday, September 12th there will be bins located in each school building where items can be dropped off. There will also be a cash donation box in each of the main offices if you would like to make a monetary donation. Every dollar donated is equivalent to 2 pounds of food. All donations will go to the Maynard Food Pantry.
