Academic Updates
ELA (Mrs.Bouchard and Mrs.Pelletier)
In English classes, our students continue to work hard on their vocabulary. This week happens to be another challenge in which any student with a 3.5 or higher will receive a sweet treat. The students have been doing a wonderful job keeping up with their weekly grammar assignments. We will continue to work on both these skills as we enter into the new year.
In reading, we’ve been learning about the Greek gods through our class novel, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. The students completed a cabin design challenge and voted on the other team’s cabins. Each team had three winners:
Team Acadia
- Gold: Athena Flowers
- Silver: Sophia Hatt
- Bronze: Lucrecia Antonio
Team Baxter
- Gold: Bryce Clark
- Silver: Bella Pinkham
- Bronze: Bailey Elwell
Honorable mentions (very close runners-up): Jasmine, Evie, Althyia, Gabe, Almedia, Lily, Ceira, Tiago, Raiden, and Tucker K.
We are so proud of every student — they put great care into their designs. Photos are attached below for you to enjoy.
Science (Ms.Wurth and Mrs.Goodson/Ms.Rathbun)
We have finally wrapped up our first big unit in science and will be having a summative assessment and lab practical before break! When students return back from break we will start our second unit about genetics!
Students had a lot of fun with the "Create Your Own Living Thing" project. We were so impressed with their scientific drawing skills and creativity! Check out some student work below!
We are also very excited to invite Ms.Goodson back from maternity leave on December 15th! :)
Math (Mr.Cote and Mr.Petit)
In math we are finishing up Unit 3: Simplifying Algebraic Expressions. In this unit we have learned about expressions and different wants to simplify them. We have simplified by combining like terms, as well as using the distributive property to expand and factor the expressions. After break we will move on to Unit 4: Solving Equations.
STEM (Mr.Long)
We've been taking our design skills to the next level in Engineering/Humanities class. Students used TinkerCad to create 3D printed cell phone/tablet stand designs. We anonymously scored the designs, based on aesthetics and functionality. Congrats to Payton Perrault and Rylan Vashon-McCrossin for the top scoring designs- it looks like aesthetics won the day! Next up, we are using a contraption comprised of lab tables, a fan, fishing line, a popsicle stick and a small piece of styrofoam to experiment with different shapes and fabrics to create the best sail design. Students will be created boat hulls in Mr. Perkins class shortly as well. Boat design aligns well with the early-US history Social Studies 7th grade curriculum, not to mention the history of the great state of Maine. It's always nice when we can make some cross-curricular connections in the classroom!
Holiday Festivities and 7th Grade Breakfast
As a 7th grade we love to celebrate all our students wonderful hard work before we go off to break and the new year! We will be holding a breakfast on Friday 12/19 and have some fun activities ranging from a ping pong tournament to craft and movie rooms!
