24-25 District Schedule Changes

As we prepare for the 2024-25 school year, the District wants to inform you about some important changes to our daily school schedule. These adjustments are aimed at improving our transportation services and ensuring a smoother start and end to the school day for everyone.

Why the Change?

This past year, we faced numerous challenges with transportation, including delays in getting students to and from school. The high absentee rate and a shortage of substitute drivers further compounded these issues. By adjusting the start and end times, we aim to:

* Improve route efficiencies,

* Ensure timely arrivals and departures,

* And enhance overall transportation services for the district.

We are optimistic that these changes will lead to a more efficient and reliable transportation experience for all our students.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community.

The full schedule can be viewed here: https://5il.co/2rynu

District Uniform Policy

The updated District Uniform Policy states that:

- Collared shirts are no longer required, but may still be worn

- Shirts may be solid colored white, black, gray, or red at all grade levels. This applies to every school in our district

- School spirit wear may be worn every day.

The uniform brochure, along with the updated policy, can be viewed on our website here:

From the Nurse's Office

The health and safety of students is of utmost importance in a school setting.

Winslow Nurse Denise Ferrari can be reached at dferrari@vineland.org or at 856-794-6973 x 3762.

Students who have been absent three days or longer should bring in a doctor’s note upon return to school. Please be reminded that sick children should not attend school. It is necessary for the well-being of all the children and staff that following an illness, students should not return to school until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and other symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea) have subsided.

Since it may be necessary to reach a parent/guardian in case of an emergency or illness (contagious/non-contagious), parent/guardians must provide the school with current home, work, and emergency contact numbers. Please update any changes to the emergency phone numbers in the parent portal on Genesis (Genesis contact list). Students must be picked up from school within one hour of notification.

With young students, incontinence (bathroom accidents) can occur, and parents are encouraged to bring in a change of clothing if desired for their students.

Medications/Treatments

Students are not permitted to bring any kind of medication to school. If a student is required to take medication during the school day, either prescription or over-the-counter, the doctor must prescribe the medication, and the written order must include the diagnosis, the name of the medication, the dosage, and the time(s)of day to be administered. Please see the Health Services page for the Medication Consent Form (green). Note the Parent Consent OTC form does not apply to Elementary students as this is only for middle/high school students. Medications will only be administered to pupils in the school by the school physician or a school nurse employed by the district. All medicines must be delivered to the school by the parent(s) or legal guardian(s). All medications must be in a proper container with the prescription information affixed. The school nurse and school health office shall be the custodian of students' medication, which will be appropriately secured.

Please have your student’s doctor indicate whether or not the medication will need to be administered for field trips. For older students, you and your student’s doctor may consider self-administration of inhalers and would need to check off this option on the Asthma Action Plan form.

By the last day of school, a parent/guardian must retrieve all unexpired or unused medication.

Chronic Conditions

Please note that a new care plan is needed by the first day of school if your student has a chronic health condition such as asthma, a life-threatening allergy, seizure disorder, or diabetes. Please see the Health Services page on our website or your school nurse to obtain the Asthma Action Plan, the Allergy Plan (FARE), and the seizure action plan, and take the form to the physician to complete and return to the school nurse. This ensures the nurse can provide the health care your student needs daily or as-needed. In addition, failure to complete documentation for this issue may impact your student’s ability to attend school field trips. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

If your student has food restrictions, please update this information on the Food Restrictions form.

Health History

Please fill out a new “Student Health History” update at the start of the new school year in the Parent Portal. Your student may have had an injury or change in a health condition that the nurse may not be aware of. If your student is no longer being treated for an illness, please have the physician notify the school nurse.

Injuries

According to state regulations, treatment by the school nurse is limited to first aid care for injuries occurring at school. Injuries incurred other than at school must be cared for at home or by your student's physician.

If your student is ordered to have a fitted brace, crutches, or use of a scooter/wheelchair, this requires a written order from the physician and must include diagnosis and any particular restrictions. (e.g., gym, recess). For example, students who cannot participate in Physical Education classes are also not permitted to participate in recess.

In all cases where the nature of an injury appears serious, every effort shall be made to contact the parent/guardian immediately.

Health Screenings

Yearly Screenings: height, weight, blood pressure, hearing, and vision.

Students will be screened for Scoliosis at the age of 10.

Students will be screened for color perception in second grade.

The school nurse will notify parents/guardians if any of the student’s screenings are abnormal.

Immunizations/Physical Examinations

If your student is transferring from out of state or out of the country, there is a 30-day grace period to obtain all New Jersey-required immunizations. After that time period, if your student has not been vaccinated, they will not be allowed to attend school until immunizations (proof of vaccines) are received. Please see the Health Services web page State of New Jersey K-12 Immunizations Requirements for specific information or speak with your student's school nurse.

Physical exams are required for new enrollees and students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Please see the Health Services page for the Universal Child Health Form for your physician to complete. You are encouraged to request that the completed form be sent to the school nurse at the completion of the physical exam. You may also bring a copy of the exam to your school nurse.
