World Literature students design kites
World Literature students have been celebrating the powerful symbol of the kite in both THE KITE RUNNER and MASTER HAROLD...AND THE BOYS. Students had to design a kite that represented and demonstrated the shared themes of the two works. A young man's coming of age in Afghanistan is not so very different from South Africa when under the shadow of oppression and bigotry.
American Literature study play "Fences" by August Wilson
Mrs. Doyle's American Literature students recently finished studying August Wilson's wonderful play, FENCES. Students wrote "persona" poems about one of the characters' figurative fences, quoting from the play itself, and then wrote poems about their own metaphorical fences. Students then created two fence slats on which they quoted from their poems and drew representative visuals of their play character and of themselves.
Animal Welfare Club display
The Animal Welfare Club is once again spreading awareness about activities and decisions that hurt animals. Their powerful display is upstairs near the main staircase and will remain there until the end of the year.
Cape Cod Dart League Youth Tournament
The following students are members of the Monomoy Dart Club, which was started 3 years ago by Instructional Assistant Kerri Robinson. Students participated in the second annual Cape Cod Dart League youth tournament held at the Yarmouth Moose Lodge: Kyra Howard, Jackson Craig, Coran Dillard, JD (Jonathan) Fougere, Joseph Bixby, and Eli Clark.
Every one of our students won either a trophy or a medal, some left with more than one! The day was filled with friendly, competitive matches against fellow students and students from other Cape Cod schools. The tournament was open to all youths ages eighteen and under. The Cape Cod Dart League sponsors this event as well as provides food and "swag bags" at no cost to the players.
The dart league and Ms. Robinson would love to see this tournament grow and get more schools and family volunteers involved. If you have any questions please feel free to email Kerri Robinson at krobinson@monomoy.edu
