Corbett School District Newsletter
November 2026
Dear Corbett Families, Staff, and Community,
Our days are getting shorter, the leaves are changing, and the crisp autumn air has certainly settled around Corbett. It’s hard to believe how quickly the school year is moving! This weekend, we also turned our clocks back one hour, and I hope you all enjoyed that extra hour of sleep.
As we begin November, we are looking to fill several very important roles on our Site Council. The Site Council plays an important role in helping develop plans to support the professional growth of our school staff and strengthen our instructional program. If you are interested in serving on the Site Council, please complete the application below or reach out to Brie Windust at bwindust@corbett.k12.or.us.
I also want to take a moment to reflect on the tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend on October 15. An act of violence at an elementary school, particularly one that is so close to home, can bring additional fear and concerns about safety for our students, staff, and families.
As we have all been processing this tragedy, it is understandable to feel a sense of loss, concern for those affected, and renewed thoughts about the safety of our own schools here in Corbett. The safety of our students and staff is one of our highest priorities. You may have questions about the steps we take to support a safe school environment, so I want to take a moment to share some of the resources, practices, and systems we have in place:
SafeOregon: SafeOregon is a statewide school safety tip line that allows students, families, and community members to report potential threats involving students, school employees, or school property. If you feel unsafe or know someone who feels unsafe, please report it right away to SafeOregon.
Secure School Buildings: Our schools have access-controlled doors and a single point of entry once the school day is underway. Visitors are required to check in through the main office.
Emergency Drills and Training: Our schools conduct emergency preparedness drills throughout the year, including drills related to active threats and other emergency situations.
Behavioral Safety Assessments: Corbett uses established tools and protocols to identify, assess, and respond to behaviors or situations that may pose a safety concern.
Mental Health Support: Our student services team works with schools daily to provide resources and direct support to students. This includes support for students experiencing bullying, social-emotional concerns, suicidal ideation, or other challenges. Our mental health professionals also support staff with difficult classroom conversations and social-emotional learning.
Partnerships with First Responders: Corbett works closely with local first responders to support emergency planning, preparedness, and response.
Events like this shake us deeply, and we appreciate your partnership in supporting our students, staff, and schools.
With gratitude,
Marleen

Winter Conditioning Camp Begins November 2! Open to ALL Winter Athletes
This is a great opportunity to stay active, build strength, improve skills, and continue growing as teammates and athletes.
This program is about more than just getting stronger! The money raised through Winter Conditioning will go toward updating the sound system in our gym—an improvement that was specifically requested by our student-athletes.
Let's come together, put in the work, support one another, and make a positive impact on our athletic programs. Every participant makes a difference, and together we can help make our gym an even better place to compete, cheer, and celebrate our student-athletes!
Please bring:
- athletic attire
- non marking athletic shoes
- water bottle

Fall Wrap Up
Congratulations to Corbett’s Cross Country team for a phenomenal District Championship race. Claire Horton won the meet in a new course record and moves on to the State Championship race seeded second in the state.
The female varsity team of Vivi Duval, Claire Turner, Elaia Pastor, Ezryn Friedel, Ellen Ciecko, Claire Horton and Lally Helzer qualified as a team to run at the State Championship race next Saturday in Eugene.
Vivi Duval, Zevi Gross, Elaia Pastor, Ellen Ciecko and Claire Horton earned All-League Honors.
Three values serve as the foundation for our Cross Country community. They are Passion, Purpose and Perseverance. Every day we train, every day we race and every day we interact at school, our Corbett Cross Country athletes embody these values by:
Finding joy and contentment with each other and with themselves;
Discovering the positive effect of their actions on their teammates and how much influence they have over their lives and their community and
Pushing themselves athletically, academically and socially further than they thought possible.
With our season down to our last two races, our District Championships on the 30th followed by the State Championships on November 7th, here are some of the highlights:
We’ve been led by a strong group of leaders, specifically, captains Enrique Aguiluz, Zevi Gross and Elaia Pastor.
Both our male and female varsity teams are the strongest collection of runners on record at Corbett.
Enrique Aguiluz, Vivi Duvall, Zevi Gross, Claire Turner, Elaia Pastor, Ezryn Friedel, Holden White, Oren Gelbrich, Ellen Ciecko, CJ Hammond, Liam Wilson-Heid, Silas Hunter, Oliver Caiazza, Lally Helzer, Claire Horton, Emmaus Pastor, Oliver Ortega, and Vincent Nedwicke all set multiple Personal Records.
Vivi, Enrique, Zevi, Ezryn, Claire T, Elaia, Holden, Ellen, Lally, Claire H, Oliver O, Emmaus and Vincent posted times that place them in the top thirteen all time at Corbett in either the 3k or the 5k.
Vivi, Zevi, Elaia, Clair T, Holden, Ellen and Claire T have all broken at least one school grade level record.
Claire Horton has set the school record in both the 3k and 5k.
We’ll be sad to see our seniors run their last race of high school, and excited to welcome a strong group of new runners next year. This group has laid a strong foundation for the years ahead.

Do you like to bowl? Join the Corbett High School Bowling Team!
Did you know bowling is a sport at over 250 colleges in the nation so you can possibly be recruited for a collegiate team and receive a scholarship that way. We like to have fun but we are a competitive sport.
Practices begin November 2nd.
Monday 4:10 to 5:40, Wednesday 4:10 to 5:40, and Friday 2:00 to 3:30.
We have all three of these times available but I also understand that we have multi-sport athletes so only we require 1 practice per week. Fridays that are school days during the season we do not have practice.
Cost is $300.00. We have several fundraising opportunities to help pay for the team's season fees. $150.00 would need to be paid upfront as a deposit.
$300 fee includes:
Jersey the player get to keep
District tournament entry
State tournament entry
End of year party
Paperwork processing fee for the entries to the tournament. This covers the actual costs for the paper, ink, and folder supplies.
Trophy/Awards budget
Extra funds for food at tournaments or if they forget to bring money for practice
I provide each athlete with a backpack, water bottle, and bowling items. We also get the kids sweatshirts for the team.
Not included in deposit: Each practice session is $5.00 to be paid to Mt. Hood Lanes where we practice. If we do not go to the state finals those funds are returned to you at the end of the season.
Our season runs November 2nd to the end of February, if we make state. We have twice before!!
There are 3 required tournaments:
January 17th, 2027 at Mt. Hood Lanes
January 31st ( districts ) at Mt. Hood Lanes
Feb 27th and 28th (state finals ) which will be held at AMF Firebird in Salem Oregon if we qualify. It's based on qualifications at districts. These are mandatory tournaments for everyone.
All knowledge and abilities welcome! A couple things that I like to share. The athlete would need to be able to deliver the ball by themselves. My team is not a unified sports team or accredited by the special olympics so the athlete would need to be able to walk, hold, throw, roll the ball independently. I just like to share that because unified sports is governed by the special olympics for bowling and there is no current unified sports league set up with that national governing body for high school bowling.
I do have access to equipment for all of my players. I collect used equipment for the kids and redistribute those to the kids when needed.
If interested please reach out today!
Respectfully,
Amber Palmer-Ortner

Jog-A-Thon at the Grade School, Middle School and CAPS was a huge success! Thank you to all the volunteers, students, staff and donors. Each of the three schools hit their goals of $35,000 (GS), $5,000 (MS) and $10,000 (CAPS). We raised over $57,000 in total, and ran over 23,000 collective laps! We are truly grateful for the support of the community and schools.
