SPOTSYCTC WEEKLY UPDATE

The Week Ending FEBRUARY 24, 2023

SPOTSYCTCWEEKLY UPDATEThe Week Ending FEBRUARY 24, 2023

Principal's Message

Good Friday Evening SPOTSYCTC Family!

What another great week at SpotsyCTC! Our CTSOs (Career and Technical Student Organizations) have been busy gearing up for District and State Competitions. Our SkillUSA members have been preparing for the District Competitions. HOSA Members have been testing and preparing for their State Leadership Conference in March and our Culinary ProStart Team have been practicing for weeks to enter the state wide event in March. These students and advisors have been working hard, putting in the time and effort and proudly representing SpotsyCTC.

As I walk around the building, I’m so impressed with our students and staff. They continue to put the time and effort into the classroom, labs, practicum, internships and externships while maintaining all the other academic rigor, after school activities and work.

We are still accepting applications for the 2023-2024 School Year. Students who are interested in one of our 19 programs, would need to fill out an application to be considered. Please see your school counselor for more details.

I’d like to take this opportunity and Congratulate:

2023 Mentor of the Year - Mrs. Minter - Medical Assisting Instructor

2023 New Teacher of the Year - Mrs. Grim - Health Care Tech Instructor

All SpotsyCTC programs incorporate 21st Century Workplace Readiness Skills. Instructors integrate the 22 Workplace Skills that were identified by Virginia Employers in their daily, weekly and monthly lessons. These skills are broken down into three categories: Personal Qualities and Abilities, Interpersonal Skills and Professional Competencies. Each week, we will highlight one of the 22 Workplace Readiness Skills, please see our career section for this week's highlight. For more information on Virginia 21st Century Workplace Readiness Skills, please go to https://www.cteresource.org/resources/workplace-readiness-skills/

LEVEL UP continues to be our theme at SPOTSYCTC and I have an opportunity to see it on a daily basis. Our students are leveling up in the classroom, on the job sites, in the community and with all the other amazing things they are doing. Our students are doing amazing things and we try to recognize every opportunity we have.

SpotsyCTC we are very unique; we serve students from all five of our outstanding high schools and offer 19 different programs with 9 different pathways and 14 industry recognized credentials. Our mission is to have every student ready for either the workforce, post-secondary education, a training program or the military. Students have the opportunity to participate in hands-on, real world classroom environments while getting involved in Workplace Learning, Job Shadowing, Internship/Externships, Student Organizations and many other opportunities. Bi-Weekly, I will spotlight one of our excellent programs. This edition, we are spotlighting our DE Teacher for Tomorrow. Please see the program spotlight section below for more information.

Good luck to all of our students who are participating in activities this weekend and next week. I know we have so many students who are involved in the fine arts, sports, clubs, outside events and other extracurricular activities. It takes a lot of work, many hours of preparation and a balance of school, home and sometimes work. Good Luck and continued success and keep Leveling UP!

I know I speak for my entire staff when I say, we really enjoy seeing our students in our building every day, it really is one of the best feelings and what makes it even better is our students want and enjoy being here. We are committed to supporting the learning of all of our students. Please have a great weekend! Take the time to relax and enjoy family and friends. We will see everyone back on Monday,

Ready~S.E.T.~Go! Spotsylvania Externship Tryout Program

Students are paired with a working professional to observe and preview the day-to-day activities needed for a career. Externships help students learn more about the nature of various occupations and work environments, as well as, education and training needed to succeed. Think of an externship as an extended job shadowing experience, designed so students may ask questions, observe, and get a feel for a workplace.

Parents, do you work in a local business? To be able to offer this program to our students, we are looking for businesses (in ALL career areas) to serve as externship sites for our students!
