WEEKLY HAWK
March 2-6, 2026
Hello Homestead Families,
As we close up the second trimester, we are having lots of celebrations of learning. This Friday, 3rd graders welcomed families in to their Sip and Share to read their poetry over a cup of hot chocolate. 3rd graders also completed a science experiment with force and motion. They created cars and tested them on our hallway ramp. Additionally, 4th grade welcomed the district STEM team for firehouse fractions. The kids designed a flying object and then used fraction models to accurately measure the distance they traveled on a firehose. 1st graders have been sending love notes all over the country! The kids wrote Valentine's and sent them to different places and then received them from all over the country! Check out the cool map and photo below.
Did your student have PE or Music this week? If so, ask them what new dances they know! I had the pleasure of seeing them dance the Cupid Shuffle, Footloose, Electric Slide, Southern Shuffle, Macarena, Do-si-do, Rocky Mountain High, Chicken Dance, and more. I even had the opportunity to dance along with Mrs. Pedrett's class on Friday! The kids will be ready for any wedding dancing in the years to come!
We also had a great site visit to West with 4th and 5th grade teachers, Ms. Jowers, Ms. Funera, and Mr. Hoopes. We learned so much about what's next and how we can best serve our students here before they become middle schoolers. It was a great collaboration with Aspen Burkett, new principal at West. Ethan: I was being flexible!
Art Room Request for Used Bubble Mailers and Wipes
Art uses bubble mailers to ensure that ceramics make it home in one piece. Save all of those used bubble mailers and drop them by the front office or leave them outside the art room.
Many grades are in the middle of their ceramics unit. With all the clay and dust in art room, we would love some extra wipe donations.
A huge shoutout to the volunteers who helped 2nd graders in Ms. Strandes class this week. The ceramic turtles turned out great!
One Hub for All School Expenses: MySchoolBucks
We are excited to share that we are expanding our use of MySchoolBucks to provide a more convenient way for families to handle school costs.
You likely already use this platform to add snack money to your student's lunch account. Beginning after spring break, you can use that same login to take care of other items, such as:
- Lost library book fees
- Club or Grade Level t-shirt sales
- Other school-related fees

- Existing Users: Simply log in as usual. You will see these new options available in the "School Store" or "Invoices" section.
- New Users: If you don't have an account yet, please create a free account today. Having your login ready now will ensure a quick and easy checkout for upcoming sales.

ATTENTION: All Volunteers at Homestead
Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. As of January 2022, we began asking every volunteer to complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools.
If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the CCSD online volunteer form. To access the form, click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT or scan the QR code. It should only take a few minutes to complete and you will only need to complete this form once a year to meet the requirements to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
Please note: if you completed this application more than one year ago, it is time to do it again!
