A Note from Mrs. Pilkington

Greetings WPA Families;

Summer is in full swing and we hope that you are enjoying the time you left have together, the sunny outdoors, and also taking some time to relax! We know that the start of school still feels a long way off, but as we are working hard to prepare for another fantastic year, we want to share a few updates to help you start the school year strong and feeling prepared.

Save the Date: Back-to-School Night

Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 13th, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. for our Back-to-School Open House! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet teachers, find classrooms, reconnect with friends, and gather important information for the upcoming school year. We look forward to seeing our WPA families there!

Fingerprinting for volunteers will also be available from 3:00–7:00 p.m. Please remember to bring a valid photo ID.

Parent Volunteer Background Checks and Fingerprinting

Student safety is a high priority here at WPA and we do require completed and approved background checks for parents volunteering to work with students during the school day (e.g., reading to the class, leading spelling groups, helping students practice math facts, making copies, chaperoning field trips, running class parties, etc.).

To make this process more convenient, we offer background checks at the school on Thursday, August 13th, beginning at 3:00 pm. You do not need to make an appointment—just come to the WPA front office between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Please note that the fingerprinting paperwork must be completed with a WPA administrator’s signature before being fingerprinted. You are welcome to pick up the paperwork in the front office before Thursday, August 13th, during open office hours (due to the required signature, it may not be emailed). Lastly, you must have your driver's license with you in addition to the paperwork to be fingerprinted.

First Day of School

The first day of school for all students in Kindergarten through 6th grade is Monday, August 17th.

  • School doors open at 7:45 a.m.
  • Classes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.
  • Parents may walk their student to class on the first day of school but will require checking in at the front office on the days following.

We can't wait to welcome our students back for an exciting year of learning and growth!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

All student drop-offs and pick-ups will take place in the front carpool lanes. To help ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone, please take a few moments to review our carpool procedures before school begins. Please take a moment to refresh yourself on our carpool procedures here.

Kindergarten Carpool PICK-UP Update

We are excited to introduce back-lot pickup for our Kindergarten students this year. Kindergarten students will be escorted to the back lot at 2:25 p.m. Parents will receive a visor flag with their child's name to display during pickup. Additional details will be shared before the first day of school. Please note this is available for pick-up only your carpool must have a kindergarten student to access backlot pick-up. Drop off with stay the same.

Supply Lists

We hope your days are full of sunscreen and swimsuits, but school supplies sales are just around the corner. You can get a jump-start on supply shopping by accessing your child’s supply lists here.

We are Hiring!

We have openings for part-time TA’s, substitutes, and part-time lunchroom aides. If you or someone you know likes working with kids and would enjoy a family-friendly work schedule, please email Mrs. Pilkington.

Office Hours

The regular office hours will resume starting August 3th, 8:00-3:30!

PTO Used Uniform Sale

Looking for uniforms at a great price? Our PTO hosts a used-uniform sale in the school lobby starting August 4th

  • Used uniform items: $1.00 each
  • Friday school shirts available
  • School jackets available

This is a great opportunity to stock up on uniforms while supporting our PTO.

We hope you continue to enjoy the remainder of your summer break. Thank you for being such an important part of the WPA community. We are looking forward to another year filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences for our students.

See you soon!

A Quick Dress Code Shopping Reminder

As you get ready for Back-to-School shopping, we wanted to share a few of the most common dress code items that result in phone calls home. Taking a quick look at these before making purchases can help save you time, money, and the inconvenience of needing to bring a change of clothes to school. Thank you for helping our scholars start each day ready to learn!

Most Common Dress Code Mistakes:

  • Shirts or shorts with visible logos or graphics
  • Sweatpants or leggings worn in place of uniform pants (leggings may be worn under a uniform skirt or jumper only)
  • Plaid that is not the approved Wasatch Peak Academy uniform plaid
  • Brown pants (uniform pants should be the khaki (tan) or navy only)
  • Sweaters with sequins, glitter, or sparkles woven into the fabric
  • Crocs or Croc-style shoes (shoes should have closed toes and heels)
  • Tan or cream-colored sweaters (please choose the approved red, white, or navy)
  • Skirts that are too short, especially in the back. Please check the length from all angles, as skirts are often shorter in the back than the front.

We appreciate your partnership in helping all of our scholars follow the dress code and begin the school year with confidence!

Thanks,
