Peace, Passion, Purpose

"You are the leaders of today. You can step up now and make a difference." -Rob Bonta, California's Attorney General

From Michelle

October is a month set aside to honor several groups of people with rich histories and who are vital members of our collective community. Month-long celebrations are a starting point for discussions, but they cannot be the totality of how the history of people is taught. There must be full and rich inclusion. At Eagle Peak Montessori we work to be inclusive twelve months a year in our practices, in our work, and in our lessons. However, we recognize that this work is ongoing and imperfect, but most of all we recognize that it is essential to living out the vision and mission of the school. We encourage parents to explore the websites below.

September 15-October 15 is a celebration and reflection of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated since 1989, with origins dating back to the first Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968. You can learn more about the history of this celebration here: https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/

Filipino Heritage Month October. This celebration was officially celebrated first in 2009. October 1587 it is estimated to be the first time people of Asian descent arrived in the area which is now California. More information can be found here: http://fanhs-national.org/filam/about/

This month we also celebrate LGBTQ+ History. The first LGBTQ+ history month was celebrated in 1994. October 11 is National Coming Out Day. For more information on LGBTQ+ History Month: https://www.hrc.org/news/lgbtq-history-month-2021-here-now

Monday Eagle Peak Montessori will be closed to honor Indigenous People's Day. There are many reasons that recognizing the historical fact that the people who were native to this continent did not get "discovered" is important. Not the least of which is recognizing that civilizations and cultures and traditions and generations of people inhabited this land long before any Europeans arrived. When we speak about discovering something, it often implies that discovery was new and almost as though it would not have existed if someone had not "discovered" it. That was certainly not the case. The Smithsonian offers this website centered around unlearning the myths surrounding Columbus Day.

PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS

Your child's teacher will have shared with you that the partnership meetings (aka Parent-Teacher conferences), will all be held via zoom this year. If you do not have access to a device or wi-fi, in order to attend this meeting, please reach out to Michelle (mhammons@eaglepeakmontessori.org). We will help to ensure that you are able to speak with your child's teacher.

PARENT OBSERVATION WEEK

While we did keep this item on the calendar, we will not be able to have parent observations this fall. We will be monitoring the situation for spring and if possible will resume this process then. There will NOT be parent observations this fall.

THIS WEEK AT EPMS

EAGLE PEAK MONTESSORI SCHOOL

School Holiday Monday, October 11, 2021 - Indigenous People Day

Students Sent Home Sick

Please help us help you. We ask that you speak to your child about coming to the office for being ill. While we want anyone who is feeling ill to let us know, we want to also help the students be able to know when a stomach ache might just be a bit of homesickness instead. We are not medical professionals and as such must err on the side of caution. Every time a child comes to the office and says that they have any of the potential symptoms of covid, they must be picked up within 30 minutes and be tested for covid. Thank you for your cooperation.

Waste Free Wednesdays

On Wednesdays we encourage students to bring little to no waste such as wrappers or anything that goes in to the trash bin. Instead we encourage you to bring reusable, recyclable and compostable containers. Participating in waste free Wednesday will ensure our school is a cleaner place.

News from CFEP

Hello from CFEP!

We were so thrilled with the response we had for Eagle Peak Swag at the picnic! Thank you so much for your support. We have received feedback that there has been interest in purchasing more, so we wanted to set up a new way of getting your swag that makes it easy for parents and our school staff to facilitate. We will be adding a purchase portal on the CFEP website for you to purchase items, and have scheduled days for self service pick-up in front of the school to minimize contact in the office similar to what we had during distance learning. You will be required to pick them up at these scheduled times ONLY.

We are also VERY excited to share that we are working towards offering EPMS branded masks, and will hopefully have them this fall for purchase! These are high quality cotton masks that have a metal nose bridge, adjustable ear loops, and a filter pocket. We will have them in two sizes, for kids and adults. We have tested them on a variety of faces to ensure that they will work across the board.

Stay tuned for the announcement of these items being officially launched soon, and thank you again for all of your support!!

News from the Office

A Few Reminders:

Covid Testing- Please note that we must receive the results of a Covid- 19 PCR test. We cannot accept the results of a rapid test. Thank you for your help with this.

We cannot allow childcare pick up between 3p-3:30p. Amy and Leslie are not in the office due to carpool pick up.

Sometimes it may be quicker and easier to walk in and pick up your kids at their classroom if there is parking.

Please remember to send a water bottle with your child's name on it to school with them. They can refill them in the classrooms and the drinking fountain if they run out.

If you need to pick up your child early, please email both the office (Admin@eaglepeakmontessori.org) and the classroom (all email addresses are located in the Parent and Student Handbook located in Transparent Classroom). This will be a great help as the teachers are planning their lessons.

Please always, always use the crosswalk.

Make up picture day is scheduled for October 15, 2021.

Please remember to write your childs name on their jackets, lunchboxes, water bottles etc.

Don't forget about Box Top$ for Education!

Remember to gather your Box Tops for Education.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app identifies eligible products and automatically adds Box Tops to Eagle Peak's earnings online. Even if you’re shopping online or doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops. Your earnings may seem small, but they really do add up. The more people that participate, the bigger the impact we can make. Learn more about how Box Tops works at BTFE.com.
