An Open House family event is open for all families to visit any time between 5:00-6:30 for as long as they are interested.
During the Open House, families can visit their student’s classroom and their specialist teachers. Families can make S’mores (watch this video to learn how to make a S’more), visit the Book Fair (a book fair is like a bookstore in our school library), and tour a New Brighton Fire Department fire truck.
A S’more is a snack sandwich created when a marshmallow is heated over a fire and squeezed between two graham crackers with a square of chocolate.
We hope to see you there!
Information from the PTA
Thank you for all the support during our fundraiser! We can't wait to have a great year supporting students, staff and families, and building the Pike Lake community!
Next Meeting
- Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 PM in the Pike Lake library
- You do not need to be a paying member to attend
- Interpreters are available with advanced notice
PTA Membership
We still need 3 more people to become paying members to stay in good standing with PTA! Being a member does not commit you to anything, but it is great because members are
the only ones that can vote during PTA meetings - so you can help choose how we
spend the money that we raised to help support our school and our students.
● It costs $10 to become an official member
● Pay with cash while attending a meeting, or pay with card via givebacks which does
include a credit card fee. https://www.givebacks.com/causes/pikelakepta
Volunteer Opportunities
● Open House- Taco Bar Meal for teachers- October 6th https://signup.com/go/yiAqKLW
● Vision Hearing Screens- November 2nd/3rd https://signup.com/go/rCyCUeH
● Ongoing Lunch Volunteers Throughout the entire school year
Reminder that you must have a completed background check on file with the school to volunteer. Visit the front desk in person with an ID to complete this process if you have not already.
There is Still Time to Visit the Book Fair!

District News
Farm to School Thursdays
This Farm to School Thursday, students tried Minnesota-cultivated wild rice sourced from Nawapo and cabbage slaw made with locally grown cabbage from Open Hands Farm. Wild rice provides fiber to help support healthy digestion, while cabbage contains vitamin C to help support a healthy immune system.
Useful Information for the School Year
Labeling Student's Belongings
Please remember to label all of your child's things with their first and last name! This includes:
- Jackets
- Sweatshirts
- Hats and mittens or gloves
- Snow pants
- Backpacks
- Water bottles
- Lunchboxes
Ways to label:
- Permanent or fabric marker
- Masking tape
- Custom labels or stamps (many places online have these)
Birthday Celebrations
If you wish to bring something to share with classmates for a birthday celebration, please limit it to a non-food acknowledgement. This is a district policy for grades K-5 to provide a safe environment for those with food sensitivities and/or allergies. Donation examples include, but are not limited to: a favorite book or board game for the class collection, stickers, pencils, pens, markers, erasers, etc. Do not send latex balloons.
It is not required to send anything to acknowledge a student's birthday.
Reporting Absences
When your child is absent, please use one of the two options below to ensure the office receives messages about your student's attendance. Attendance messages sent directly to teachers will not be received by the office if the teacher is absent or does not read/forward the message.
- ParentVUE (this is the fastest and easiest) - Select "Report Absences" on the Student List/Home Screen. Click here for the ParentVUE login link.
- Note: For midday pickups, notify the teacher directly via email, please do not submit the absence on ParentVue.
- Call the attendance line: 651-621-7401. This is a voicemail only line so you can leave a message any time of the day or night.
If your child is sent home for illness and health staff have told you your student cannot attend the following day, you must still enter it in ParentVUE or call the attendance line. For the safety of our students we verify their absences every morning.

Please remember to bring your ID with you to check in at the office if you are coming to the school to:
- Pick up a student
- Volunteer
- Attend a meeting
- Have lunch with your student
- Filling out a background check
If you are sending someone else to pick up your student, remind them to bring their ID and make sure they are listed as an emergency contact.
