Nurse News with Ms. Lara
News from the Nurse
Hearing and Vision Screenings
State Mandated Hearing and Vision screenings will begin the week of August 24th and run until completed in September/October. Grades K, 1st, 3rd, 5th are screened. If your child wears eye glasses, please be sure they have them on at school for optimal results. Students who do not pass the screening will have a note sent home in their backpack.
Does your CUB have an injury with activity restrictions?
If your student has a cast, splint, walking boot or recovering from surgery that requires activity restrictions, the school will need a note from the Doctor.
These notes are important in maintaining the prescribed safety their Doctor is expecting for recovery. The note also allows our PE Coach to excuse the student from activities and not impact their grade in PE.
PLEASE be sure Nurse Lara gets a copy of the activity restriction letter with each Doctor visit until restrictions are lifted.
Questions?
Email Nurse Lara, BSN, RN, at llara@mckinneyisd.net or 469-302-6000.
Keeping Our Cubs Safe
Meet Officer Jon
Hello Webb Cubs Parents! For those who haven't met me yet, my name is ASO Jon Hoffman. The kids all call me Officer Jon. I am a retired Plano Police Department Detective with over 30 years' experience as a police officer. My job at J.W. Webb Elementary is first and foremost to keep your kids safe, but I also look out for the safety of staff and you, the parents as well. This week's topic will be about rules, courtesy, and etiquette when dropping your children off in the morning and picking them up at the end of the day. Many of you already know all the rules and adhere to them perfectly but this year we have so many new students for all grade levels, K-5. Most of you have had a chance to look over rules and etiquette for the drop off/pick up process already, so some of this will be a refresher.
Patience- For many, this is their first year at Webb, kids as well as staff, so we are all doing our best to navigate thru this until we become accustomed to the process. Please be patient and smile even when it may be a challenge.
On Time- Please become familiar with drop off and pick up times. Early to both is better if possible. Being late most likely will require you to park and bring your kids to the front door or come inside to pick them up. You all have busy lives and this is both time-consuming and inconvenient.
When pulling into the drop-off/pick-up lanes, please stay to the right. Kids should exit on the passenger side of your vehicle and usually there is a staff member present to assist. Sometimes it may take a little extra time for a parent to unload so please be patient and not pass the car on the left side because kids will be kids and sometimes they exit from the wrong side and we don't want to even consider the possibility.
When picking your kids up at the end of the day and entering back onto the roadway, please turn right, not left when exiting the school drive. Turning left greatly disrupts traffic flow and becomes a safety issue.
When picking up your kids, the line can be long at times. You will see this become faster and faster as everyone becomes more accustomed to the process. Getting frustrated and cutting each other off, cutting in line or honking serves no productive purpose and creates bad feelings between parents. Rest assured the staff are getting the kids to their vehicles as quickly as possible so you can be on your way as quickly as possible. Please have your pickup placard clearly displayed hanging on your rear-view mirror.
If you decide to pull into the parking lot to drop off your kid, then please walk them across the drop off line thru the marked crosswalk to the area near the flagpole .
Do not drop off at the roadway in front of the school. This is a huge safety issue as well as a traffic disruption.
If you are in a hurry and need to pick up your kid without delay, then do that before dismissal. If you bypass the pick-up line to pull into the parking lot to pick up your kid, staff will redirect you back into the pick-up line and now you are even more delayed.
Lastly, anytime you come to the school please bring a picture ID with you. It can be a driver's license, State ID card, or a passport. A picture of your ID on your phone is not accepted. You will not be allowed to enter the school without a valid form of identification. This includes each person wishing to enter.
If I haven't met you yet please feel free to come introduce yourself. It's always good to be able to associate a parent's face to their child. Any safety concerns or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated! If you have any questions just ask. I'm learning too!

Dear Webb Families,
Below are the official McKinney ISD Health Services guidelines regarding outdoor activities during extreme temperatures.
MCKINNEY ISD HOT / COLD WEATHER GUIDELINES (Non UIL)
Heat Guidelines for NON UIL Activities
MISD will utilize Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) as the recommended forecast measurement to monitor environmental conditions (heat) during outdoor physical activities. WBGT estimates the effect of temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation using a combination of temperatures from three thermometers.
MISD will use the DTN Weather Sentry App WBGT reading to determine the level of activity in which students can participate in outdoor activities.
Regional Classification
According to the WBGT Classification map:
McKinney ISD is in the area zoned as "Class 3"

Complete Your McKinney ISD Volunteer Background Check - NO Grace Period
Interested in volunteering in McKinney ISD for the 2026-2027 school year? Volunteer applications are being accepted for the upcoming school year. McKinney ISD requires all volunteers complete the required volunteer process each school year. Please note, MISD will not have a grace period this year for volunteers to complete their annual background check. This means you must apply and wait for your approved background check before you can volunteer on campus for the 26-27 school year.
All volunteers with McKinney ISD agree to a background check each school year prior to beginning volunteer duties. McKinney ISD is dedicated to making sure that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and secure environment.
The volunteer application process is just one effort used by the school administration to help make our schools safe.
VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS MAY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO BE PROCESSED.
To apply, click the link below and select the School or schools of your choice. An email account is required for notification purposes. Once your volunteer application is processed and the criminal background check is complete, you will receive an e-mail notification regarding your application from the MISD Human Resources department.
