From Principal Elsasser

Well, we came back from winter break to be interrupted by the winter weather. We will try this again as we get to focus on the last part of the 24-25 school year. As we spoke about in our class reset meetings, lets make the second half of the school year great!! Seniors, we are so proud of you and watching you grow and become great humans. Keep your focus as we strive for that finish line.

We have Summit testing this week Monday-Wednesday. Letters were delivered last week to students who are testing. This semester is when we have tests such as our Industry Based Certifications, TELPAS and STAAR, and AP exams.

To align with our professional goals, remember: cell phones need to be turned in at the beginning of class, earbuds/headphones should not be worn during class, students should be in standard dress with their student ID badge around their neck, and students should arrive on time to class. By being consistent with these things our students will be better prepared for their future.

BPA is having their Regional competition here at Vanguard this weekend and we are looking forward to all our CTSO's competing in the next few weeks.

We greatly appreciate the service and sacrifice our officers show each day. Thank you, Officer OC and Officer Souddress, for being heroes within our community. We thank you, too, Ferris, for protecting our community!

There is no school, Monday, January 20th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please make sure you are watching the MISD website and social media for information about inclement weather. Viam Ducemus!

Congratulations to Mrs. Baker! Congratulations to Mrs. Baker!

Attention VANGUARD Families

🚨 The student ID policy is still in effect! Student IDs must be worn and visible at all times while on campus.

Families, here’s how you can help:

✅ Remind your student to wear their ID every day.

✅ Encourage students to find a consistent spot, like their backpack, to store their ID to avoid losing it.

💡Parent Tip: Check for your student’s ID before they head out the door each morning. Your partnership helps ensure a safe environment for students and staff.

Thank you for helping us with this important safety measure!

Engaging Activities Engaging Activities

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship students in Mr. Moss's classes, for the first time, pitched their business proposals to fellow students. They had to identify and create solutions to solve a problem. They pitched, like on Shark Tank, their most viable product. Moving forward, students will continue to develop their product and fine toon their business model.

A Raisin in the Sun Bloom Project

Mrs. Adcock's Advanced English I students read the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry during the second nine weeks. Their project was to design 12 panels to demonstrate their engagement and understanding of the text. They had to display the following:

  • Create a cover for the novel
  • Facts about the author
  • Analyze the main character
  • Draw and annotate a key scene
  • Write an original poem about the text
  • Plot diagram for how time is used to advance the plot
  • Symbol to represent the theme
  • Explain a critical theory
  • Word Mapping
  • Explain the internal conflict with evidence

Parent Pick Up and Drop Off

Please make sure you are dropping off and picking up students in the rear of the building. Drivers will circle around the perimeter of the student parking lot to the rear door of the building, drop off or pick up students, and then circle around the perimeter of the parking lot to exit back to McKenzie Road. The gates for dismissal pick-up open at 3:45 pm. Please do not enter the back until that time.

ONLY BUSES will be permitted to use the entrance of the school (where the flag pole is located) on Faithon P. Lucas Sr. Blvd. during arrival and dismissal times.
