Warhawk Culture - Be A Great Teammate

UCLA Coach John Wooden once said, “A player who makes a team great is better than a great player.” His philosophy reminds us that true greatness isn’t found in individual accomplishments but in how we contribute to the success of the team or family.

This connects directly to our Warhawk Blueprint — Own It, Better Together, Pursue Excellence. Great teammates are selfless. They prioritize the team, look for ways to make the team better, and choose to fully embrace their roles.

This weekend, I came across a post on X from CoachAJ Mental Fitness (@coachajkings) that made me think of our team and family here at WCHS. He shared 8 ways to be a great teammate:

  1. Work hard

  2. Be humble

  3. No complaining

  4. Commit fully

  5. Own your role

  6. Be positive

  7. Be accountable

  8. Care for others

It takes ALL of us — students, staff, and families — bringing the best version of ourselves each day to make WCHS a great place. Thank you for Owning your role, striving to be a great teammate, and keeping our Warhawk Family as a priority. Have a great week! Go Hawks!

Wings Up ,

Mrs. Sayre

Principal

Westerville Central High School

Our Warhawk Blueprint outlines what we believe, how we behave and outcomes we hope to achieve together at WCHS. These beliefs are our guidepost that provide alignment in all we do.

FAFSA Beta Testing

Each year, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) provides more than $120 billion in financial aid—including grants, loans, and work-study funds—to help millions of students pursue postsecondary education. Like you, we believe education opens doors to opportunities and possibilities for students, families, and communities.

The first step on this journey is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) at fafsa.gov.

The 2026–2027 FAFSA form will officially be available on October 1, 2025. To ensure a smooth launch, FSA is currently beta testing the new form and its updated features. Already, more than 1,000 students have successfully submitted their applications through this testing process.

Throughout September, any student or parent can request to participate in this beta test. This is a unique chance to complete the FAFSA early while also helping improve the process for others.

➡️ Students and families can request access here: StudentAid.gov/joinbeta

We encourage all interested students to take part in this opportunity and get a head start on securing financial aid for their future.

The Movie Game

Warhawk Theatre Presents The Movie Game, a play by award winning comedy playwright, Adam Hummel! It tells the story of Jack Goldberg, a cinephile who would rather watch movies than get a job or live on his own. When his mother gets him an appointment with the eccentric "therapist to the stars," Dr. Seuz, Jack soon finds himself "living a movie" as a form of experimental therapy. But what he didn't anticipate was a meddling director, overly involved family members, or falling in love!

Come see this absurd romantic comedy, September 25th-28th. Tickets are on sale now at www.wchstheatre.net/ticketing.

School Clinic

Hello Warhawk Families,

I hope you and your students have had a great start back to the school year! I am happy to have them back in the building and have enjoyed catching up on their summers.

A couple of reminders as we approach the Fall season...

Parents of Seniors

Please make sure to get your student’s Meningitis booster if you have not already done so. If this is already scheduled please reach out to me and let me know when your appointment is. Immunizations can be done at annual well visits, local health departments, or a pharmacy clinic. Ohio School Immunization Requirements

Illness Procedures

If your student is sick and needs to leave school, they are required to come to the clinic and then sign out through attendance. Please keep your child home if they have a fever of 100.1 or higher, are vomiting, have symptoms of pink eye (itchy, watery, redness, pain, drainage), skin rashes/ blisters, or any other symptoms that keep them from fully participating in their school day. Students can return when they are fever free for 24 hours without using medication and symptoms have improved.

Medications

If your child will need daily or as needed/ emergency medications kept at school, or if they self carry any medications, updated documentation is required each school year. All forms and other clinic information and resources can be found on the Health Services page on the district website.

Questions? Reach out anytime!

School Counseling Needs Assessment

Warhawk Families, Westerville Secondary Schools will be conducting a School Counseling Needs Assessment for all students in grades 6-12 this year to identify needs, areas for program improvement, topics for small groups, barriers to student success, as well as strengths and gaps in existing services. The school counseling team worked together to develop the set questions in 4 areas: Academic, Social-Emotional, Career and College, and general needs. Students will take the anonymous needs assessment during Advisory/Flytime on September 17, 2025.

Please see the information flyer, the list of survey questions, and the letter and opt-out form linked below for more details. Our team will review results to ensure the school counseling program is responsive and aligned with the school's evolving needs.
