Signing in to the Chrome Browser

Q: Is signing in to the Chrome Browser the same thing as signing into Google Drive?

A: No. Signing into Google Drive allows access to the G Suite Applications.

Q: Why should a user sign in to the Chrome Browser?

A: This will allow you to access your data from any device:
    • Bookmarks

    • Browsing History

    • Extensions (ex. Read and Write for Google Chrome)

    • Apps (ex. Google Drive)

    • Settings

Note: Only sign in to Chrome with devices you trust. If you're using a public computer, use guest mode instead of signing in.

Q: How often do I need to sign in to Chrome?

A: Once per device. Note: When signing onto a Chromebook, you are automatically signed in to the Chrome Browser.

Create an OCR Enabled PDF

  • The copy machines in each building have the ability to scan documents into PDF format.
  • You can expand the capabilities of a PDF by using the Object Character Recognition (OCR) feature when scanning your documents. An OCR'ed PDF allows the text to be searchable and for screen readers (Read and Write for Google) to interrupt and read aloud the pages.

Convert a PDF to a Google Doc

Do you have a PDF file that contains text that you want to edit? While you can't edit the file itself, you can use Google Drive to extract the text from a PDF file and place it into a Google Doc, which you can then edit and format.

Guidelines for SWPS Teacher Classroom Webpages

The South Windsor Public Schools district uses and supports the Google Suite of products. Please use your district Google account to create a teacher webpage in Google Sites.

  • Contact Information - Include your Name, Class Level/Subject, Email and Phone #.
  • Phone Numbers - List your 10-digit direct dial phone number.
  • External Web Links - All links and resources need to be approved by the Curriculum Specialist and/or Technology Department.
  • Avoid Duplicating Links - Encourage students to use the "Student Dashboard" on the district website to access district wide links. These links are current.
  • Curriculum - Links to curriculum documents, standards and guidelines should be from content level source.
  • Calendars - Grade level and school events should be included on School Events calendar whenever possible.
