10/16/26 Life in the Middle
October 16, 2026
Principal Message
During our early-release time yesterday, NHMS staff engaged in important learning and discussion around student technology use. In 2018, NHMS was one of the first schools in the area to pilot a phone-free school environment. As the national conversation around 1:1 devices, AI, and screen time continues to evolve, we are taking a thoughtful look at what it means to maintain a healthy, enriching learning environment for our middle school students.
Over the past month, our staff completed a technology audit. Yesterday, we reviewed our findings, explored current research, and discussed potential next steps.
Throughout the year, we look forward to inviting parents and families into this conversation and learning from your perspectives. Please continue to read Life in the Middle for opportunities to share your feedback and participate in this important conversation. Thank you for your continued partnership!

Conference Dinner Donations

We’re still looking for beverages and desserts to round out their dinners. Homemade or store-bought desserts are welcome! No time to bake or shop? Individually wrapped treats ordered from Amazon are a great option, too. Every contribution helps!
Thank You for Making Husky Howl a Success!
Over 300 students joined us for Husky Howl, and it took a lot of helping hands to make it happen! Thank you to all the families who sold tickets, found vendors, donated, patrolled the halls, helped with activities, emceed our amazing raffle giveaways, and pitched in with setup and cleanup.
We appreciate the time and energy you gave to make this a fun afternoon for our students. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Fall Break
There is no school for students on Monday, October 19 for Fall Break.
