"It's a great day to be a Panther"
News & Notes from the Principal
Happy Friday DKMS families! It was great week here in the middle school.
I would like to thank everyone who donated to our Thanksgiving Drive. We were able to raise $342.09 to donate to local families for Thanksgiving meals, winter clothes, and other items. Congratulation to Mr. Fawcett's P7 class, who raised $200 and won our building competition!
Next, our 8th grade students will have the opportunity to tour the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center (BCAMSC) on Thursday December 4, 2025. Students were given a field trip permission slip on Wednesday. If they are interested in going, they will need to return the slip by Monday December 1, 2025. If your child does attend the field trip, they will be taking the OLSAT test to see if they qualify for the BCAMSC program. If you have more questions please contact at bobby.tillman@dkschools.org or (269) 623-1544.
Next week we will only have school on Monday 11/24 and Tuesday 11/25. We are off for Thanksgiving Break Wednesday 11/26, Thursday 11/27, and Friday 11/28.
As always, I would like to thank our students, staff, families, and community for all of their hard work and support. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, what I am thankful for is the opportunity to work in the Delton community. Everyday I have the opportunity to work with great teachers, students, families, and the community. As a team, I know we will continue to help our students have a positive impact on our community!
Have a great weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!
It's a great day to be a PANTHER!

Students Inspire Grant to Add Graphic Novels
Mrs. Tyner, who teaches 8th Grade ELA and 7th/8th Grade Honors ELA, recently received a $500 grant from the Delton Kellogg Educational Foundation (DKEF). Several of her students had asked for more graphic novels to read in class. Always excited when students show an interest in reading, Mrs. Tyner wanted to support them however she could. She wrote and submitted a grant request to the DKEF, and with the award, she was able to add a variety of new graphic novels. She has built most of her library over the years with her own resources, and this grant gives students even more books and ways to enjoy reading.
She is pictured below with some of the students whose excitement for graphic novels inspired her to write the grant. Seeing students eager to read continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of her teaching.
Mr. Weldon’s American History Class: Exploring Citizen Responsibilities
This week, Mr. Weldon’s American History class has been making posters about citizen responsibilities. Students focused on examples like respecting others, staying informed, and taking responsibility for their actions. The posters feature creative illustrations and catchy slogans to highlight each responsibility. Through this project, students are learning how their actions can make a positive difference in their community.
8th Graders Explore Sleep & Dreams
In Mrs. Ingle’s Health class, 8th grade students have been learning all about sleep and why we dream. Students created their own presentations, each including information about Freud’s ideas on dreams and the bio-psychological theory. They did a great job showing what they learned in fun and creative ways!
Watercolors and Optical Illusions
This week, Mr. Gailey’s art classes learned about two creative styles of artwork.
Our 7th graders practiced watercolor skills by painting colorful animal designs, learning how to blend colors. Meanwhile, the 5th graders focused on optical art, using shading techniques to create fun visual illusions in their projects. Great job to all of these students.
Students Explore How Light Travels
This week, Mr. Fleser’s science classes have been exploring how light travels in a straight line. Students got hands-on experience with a flashlight experiment, observing how light moves and reflects. It was an interactive way for students to see the properties of light in action and deepen their understanding firsthand.
From Guess to Test: Learning About Density
Mr. Phillips’ science classes spent Friday learning how to calculate mass, density, and volume of different objects. Students put their skills to the test with a “Sink or Float” activity, where they first predicted whether each object would sink or float. After making their guesses, they tested each item to see if their predictions were correct. It was a good hands-on way to explore how density works.
Students Share Their Ukulele Skills
Mrs. Knight’s 6th grade Ukulele class is doing a great job learning new songs on the ukulele. The office even had several surprise visitors this week who offered to play some music for us. 🎵🎶🪕
