Belleville High School Technology Policy 26-27

The best strategy for supporting students is TOGETHER! Limiting technology (<2 hours per day), monitoring Social Media/Communications usage at home, and providing healthy alternatives to screen time is beneficial for all involved. It truly takes a village...
*as requested/recommended by our attending parent group - THANK YOU for your support!
Healthy Alternatives to Technology 🥗
Thinking about what students can do INSTEAD of screen time, consider engaging them in the following:
- Hands On Activities: crafts, cooking, Legos, baking, ceramics, home improvements, scrapbooking, gardening, etc.
- Exercise and Movement: dancing, skating, athletics, team sports, walking, bike riding, etc.
- Creative Expression: learn an instrument, sketch, draw, paint, color, knit/crochet, join an acting Club, Sing, video editing, etc.
- Analog Entertainment: playing board games, reading books, physical jigsaw puzzles, or reading paperback books and magazines.
- AND MORE: volunteering, joining clubs and activities, and other positive social interactions!

School Safety Measures 🦺
It is important to note that safety measures are practiced frequently in hallways and classrooms at BHS. For example:
- Staff are formally trained in A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) and building safety protocols,
- Students routinely discuss and practice safety protocols, including A.L.I.C.E.
- MERT (Medical Emergency Response Team) training and monthly updates are required for the building's Emergency Response Team.
- Random Safety Searches are conducted on a regular basis.
- Okay to Say and Anonymous Student Concerns Forms are reviewed and responded to immediately.
📵 Consequences for Tech Infractions
1st Offense - Device confiscated; student picks up at end of day from their Administrator (A.P.)
2nd Offense - Device confiscated; parent/guardian makes arrangements for device pickup
3rd Offense - Devices banned for that student for progressive intervals
Additional Offenses - progressive discipline (which include restorative measures) as necessary
NOTE: Partnering with the school by enacting consequences at home helps provide consistency in high expectations. Thank you!
